Retro retro?? What's next?

Just a thought, but what do you think the next step is for auto makers? Retro is in, but I wouldn't think you could do two retros back to back. Do you make a retro retro, or do you go back to futuristic? It will be very interesting to see what the next Mustang will be like......

Probably the only Mustang that really went futuristic was the original Fox-based Mustang in '79, which really was a major step away from previous Mustangs, especially the lamentable Mustang II that preceeded it. The Jack Telnack styling was very trim, clean and European, with few if any styling cues from previous Mustangs. The body and chassis were another big step forward for the day (though that day was nearly a 1/4 century ago and that same chassis, now in the current Stang, is badly dated).

Whether some future iteration of the Mustang will make such a break from tradition is anybody's guess. At some point, retro styling will simply just become old and derivative and the market will expect something more daring and modern. I doubt that any future Mustang will make such a break, styling wise, from tradition as the '79 did though.
