S650 Looks like a huge swing and a miss with consumers.

First year sales
S550 - 2015 - 122,349
S650 - 2024 - 35,434 (projected)

S550 median sales was 72,489 per year.
S550 average sales was 74,097 per year.

By comparison, Chevy is selling as many Corvettes in 2024 as Ford is selling S650's.

It seems more to me a consumer shift, the (what would’ve been target demo in the past)
Is not interested in cars.

It’s an amazing car though, ford is really punching above it’s weight with the new S650.

I could see mustangs going away sooner than later, people just seem to want trucks and small SUVs.
Far less people have 60K for a fun weekend toy or don’t prioritize that.

They've been barely selling 50k a year for the last 5 years or so

The price going up, interest rates sucking dick, and the fact that you can tune them doesn't help.

I'd like to see, compared to say, 2015, how many people stuck a blower on them the first year they owned them. I know that's not a huge segment (1-2,000 maybe? more?) but why would someone like me, sell their boosted car to buy one that they can't do shit with (at least last year, this year the Whipple kit finally came out)?

I tend to agree with this. I actually like the interior and tech improvements on the S650. However, measured performance basically stayed flat which is disappointing.

The look is growing on my, slowly.

I think the poor sales performance is a larger issue more related to target consumer market vs. 2015's s550 launch.

Obviously ev's didn't even exist en masse 9 years ago so there's that also.

I've had multiple Mustangs and Fords around all the time, along with WRX's, Mazdas, BMWs. Three of my 4 kids drove Mustangs growing up and love them. Last year one bought a '23 Civic. Today another bought a '24 Civic. They are both in their low 20's years old. I asked him why he went with a Civic and not a Mustang. His paraphrased answer: Mustang has 60k miles and everything leaks and is falling apart. Don't want that quality horror show again. And the base version is too expensive and way ugly, and the flat panel digital dash was a hard no.

Anecdotal, yes, but I can't blame either one of them for going with a Honda. Personally, my GT350 is the last Ford I'll own (unless they actually make something awesome with respectable quality).

It is difficult to make a conclusion like this when you don't know what Ford's sales objective is for the first year of the S650.

Only 36 new Mustangs within 100 miles of me and includes 3 Darkhorse at or below MSRP. Granted, it is starting to get late for Northern tier sales and no dealer would want many on the lot, but hard to sell a guy walking the lot something you don't have. Price and interest rates definitely hurting sales to younger guys. Ford production has been whack on a lot of models this year, so maybe some of that.

That is pretty anecdotal though. If you want to see how a vehicle is performing, you would look at the days-to-turn and how much incentive spend they are putting in the vehicle and compare it quarter-to-quarter and see how it is relative to other vehicles within the same segment.

I have a Whippled 24 fwiw… car is nuts, I barely even look at my foxbody anymore,
It’s just so advanced and infinitely more reliable.
I keep it around 800 wheel, but it’s like 10 minutes to pulley swap to 900… a few cars have gone 1K plus already…
Simple, easy and just plain works.

I actually get races in this car because people expect it to be a slow stock untuned blah blah…

Gap TF outta cats, hawks, 500s

I dig that color, but I think some polished wheels would look killer on it.

Who's it tuned by? Did you install the Whipple?

Yes I installed it, super easy, excellent fit/engineering!
It comes with whipple tomahawk flash device with the new tune calibration.
All basic hand tools, simple install, just time consuming being thorough with a brand new car and all.

Have had it on a 500 mile road trip already.

I agree with your son. That stupid tablet dash BS destroys the interior for me. I don't think it flows well at all.

Supposedly the steering feel sucks balls too.

Unless something changes I won't be buying any new mustangs. I'd rather buy an old C5 and mod it or get a FFR Daytona kit car.
