So the guy who responded in post #9 is a doctor with double board certification to treat your exact issue.
He actually responded at his lunch break from doing about 30 of the exact spinal procedures you may need.

Thank you for taking time to provide ACTUAL medical advice to the OP.

I whole heartedly agree with you. I look at people like machines. When trouble shooting find the cause/pinpoint the problem, then fix it. Don't blindly throw parts/procedures at it hoping something works.

People love to push going to see one but they completely ignore the fact the chiropractor doesn't actually know what is wrong. All they can do is guess.

How about my sister who was born with small ureters and lost both kidneys at the age of three... my mom took her to multiple family practitioners and nephrologists who weren’t able to diagnose the issue until AFTER both kidneys failed.

By your reasoning and given this example, people should stay the **** from all health care providers.

What’s comical is the advice given (that you approve of) isn’t very different then what a chiropractor might prescribe (other than maybe the shots).

A good chiropractor will assess through palpating, range of motion, muscle resistance tests, etc. to narrow things down (similar to what a PT would do). They will even recommend x-rays and/or an MRI depending on their findings.

There are good and bad chiropractors, just like there are good and bad MD’s; to make a blanket statement on an entire profession based on one or two anecdotal incidents is ignorant at best.

Go back and read what I said again. At no point did I make a blanket statement regarding the entire profession or inability to treat other issues.

Last I checked this was a thread about sciatic nerve pain and everything I've stated was with that intention and nothing more.

You should probably go back and read your own post. You did address Sciatica at first but the rest of your entire post had an air of bashing chiropractors as being clueless and that only doctors can be trusted to fix issues.

Again the the thread is about sciatic nerve pain. Everything I stated was in regard to the topic hence why I gave my own account of my sciatic issues. Your taking what I've typed out of context.

I have only been once to a chiropractor for lower back pain. I went on the advice of a family member. My experience may not be typical.

The assistant took me into the treatment room and had me lie face down on a massage table. She was a largish woman who spoke with a mostly unintelligible east European accent. She grunted out that she would be massaging to loosen the muscles in the area.

Using a machine with three mandarin orange sized rubber orbs like a massager currently advertised on tv she she began to pummel and soften me up.

Despite my explaining several times that the pain was higher up in my lower back she focused mainly on inner thighs and the back of my nutsack. This seemed odd at the time and not quite right.

I let this go on for no more than 50 or 60 minutes before asking to see the doctor. She reluctantly got him. Within seconds he cracked my back and I was out of there minutes later.

I limped back to my car in worse pain than before and completely bewildered.

A week or so later I read in the local paper that the clinic had been busted for sexual interference with patients.

Again, this might not happen at all chiropractors. You may have to search for a good one. The assistant will look like a female power lifter from the former Soviet Union.

That's who I was thinking of.

@kirks5oh You out there, brother?

i would echo biminilx. Time for an mri to find out what’s going on. I’m a hip and knee specialist, but unfortunately, also have people that I see who complain of back pain. Lol. Get an mri. Could be nothing. Could be a small disc bulge that improves with weight loss, core strengthening, and a short course of anti inflammatories. Might need a steroid shot. Who knows. The vast majority of acute back pain goes away in a couple days, with rest, and anti inflammatories.

Reputable chiropractors aren’t the worst. But it’s like fixing a modern computerized car where the check engine light goes on, with no diagnostic tools whatsoever

^Are you serious? If so, are you now a card carrying member of #metoo?

Ha ha. Story is totally serious and factual. At the time it just seemed really weird. I got home that evening and told my wife about it.

The worst part was that there was a younger and very attractive assistant also doing prep for the bone cracker. And there was me with the big, strong older gal with several longish hairs sprouting from her chin. Ahhh...what could have been.

After the arrests were made public I asked my brother how he had gone there for so long. He said he assumed it was just part of normal chiro trearment and worked for him.

Thanks for the response. The pain is less severe now. I can walk without pain but bending at the waist or twisting is still out of the question.

Just get an inversion table.

I actually sold mine because my bros and I installed a pull up bar in the backyard. I got gravity boots which is even better than an inversion table. I have two 50lb dumbells that I used while im hanging upside down and it stretches my back even more. I need to try 2 45lb plates and an olympic bar.

But yea, inversion table or just dead hanging on a pull up bar does wonders. I sit on my ass all day for work.

Same exact thing I do and works well! Also sit on my ass all day for work, seems to be the problem.

I think you should find a lady that weighs about 85 lbs and have her slowly walk up and down your spine. In 1970 I had this done about 4 or 5 times and I haven't had any back problems since. :)

Back in my late teens I used to have my little sister do that on my back. She'd freak out because my spine would crack like knuckles.

I hurt my back this time while I was doing this particular stretch where your legs are extended up a wall and your weight is on your upper back and you grip your waist and push upward while the weight of your legs presses downward. In essence, I was compressing my spine which was dumb. Probably had a disc slip because of it.

I forgot to mention I was in Thailand at the time. :)

FlahDah man.
Another for MRI. Sounds like you have an S-1 issue based on description.

My cervical damage happened while in Iraq back in 2006. The prognosis was I am one bad speed bump from being paralyzed from the neck down.

Do not play with spinal nerves and for goodness sake do not listen to anyone that says anything other than get an MRI and take it easy

OK Bozos, stop clowning around.

It's much better now. I can walk and sit with no pain. It feels stiff though. I was planning on doing some light jogging or swimming this week. I hesitate to twist but I can bend forward with no pain.
