I need as many opinions as possible on this. I bought a teksid block that was bored .020 over decked and all the good stuff. When it arrived, I realized the “machine shop” that I purchased it from shipped it in 2 boxes taped together to make it longer and a bunch of paper and blow up bubbles that didn’t protect it. After looking at the block, there’s no cracking or anything but the deck has a couple scratches that catch my nail when I move it over them. Would this be a problem? Would I have to re deck the block? Please let me know cause I’m kinda pissed off that a machine shop would think it’s ok to ship an aluminum block like this.

Ya don’t send it back just so they can screw it up more. Get it to a reputable shop. Preferably drive there. Have it checked out at least. Send them the bill from the new machinist and see what kind of company they really are.

Have you called the "machine shop" to discuss this? If not, you need to do it soon. You need to know right away how good their customer service is.

Call them immediately, very sketchy that they shipped it in a cardboard box.....unfortunately you now need to question EVERYTHING that was done to the block on their watch.

Call them, state it arrived in a cardboard box, ask if this is "normal" and explain the box was "broken" upon arriving and that some of the mating surfaces have scores in them and this concerns you. See what they have to say, if they talk around the issue flat out ask "what are my options at this point because I'm not comfortable with moving forward with this block in it's current state"

Ultimately they got you by the [email protected], still got the block though, worse case scenario you take it to another shop to get checked out, but its not a complete loss no matter how this plays out.

    That's my .02

    You
You guys are right, if they chose to ship an aluminum block in 2 cardboard boxes with minimal padding then I don't trust their machining work. I have contacted the seller already and he's giving me many excuses including "go to fedex and get the insurance money" and "I put a bunch of bubble wrap in there to pad it". I went to fedex and they basically told me to kick rocks and they weren't going to cover it under insurance because of "improper packing method, and material used". But you wanna hear the real kicker? the engine in the listing isn't even the engine I received. The zoomed in photo is from the listing and the high quality one is mine... is it me or do the date stamps not match? I think this guy is full of shit.

You might as well put this guy on blast. He’s a scammer 100%. Whoever would ship an aluminum block in a cardboard box is either a scammer or half retarded. Either way post who it is so no one else gets scammed. And good luck retrieving your money.

I have taken photos of everything from how it showed up, to the scratches on the deck surface. I've even taken videos of me unboxing the engine and using my fingernail to scratch at the gouges. Moving as fast as I can cause I'm not losing my money. For anyone wanting to know the price, it was a block that was Jet Hot Tank cleaned, pressure tested, Honed to .020 over, Deck & Line Bore Checked, and I paid $790 for it... For that amount, I assumed he knew how to package it and that it would be ready to go.

Everytime I read "Shipped and engine block in a cardboard box", I actually laugh out loud. That's so incredulous, I can't believe this is real life haha.

I'm sorry this happened to you, hope you get it taken care of quickly. Please PLEASE update this thread until there's a resolution.
