So \i'm at a loss... Cam sensor problems.

No, i believe its an interference engine. Well you have a couple choices.

1. Put it back together, and see how everything is going. (Spin motot by hand to make sure nothing is hitting. Could also do compression / leakdown test)
2. Pull heads and have them gone through for peace of mind
3. Pull motor, toss rotating assembly in it, clean up heads, and come out with a stronger motor ready to go. Then you could toss some nitrous up top or go to a bigger blower/turbo.

When i get a car like this at my shop usually i do a leak down before i tear it appart but in this case with the broken gear i would put all the new timing components back on and roll the engine over by hand and do a leak down before you put it all the way back together. Another option is to pull the cams before you put the new timing stuff on and that way you can leak down all 8 at the same time (no cams so all the valves should be closed)
