Starting issues

A few nights ago I was out driving around and stopped at Steak and Shake. I came back out after eating with a few friends (45min top) and my car wouldn't start, it just clicked like it was dead. Beep was drawn out and off key, lights were super dim, etc. I got a jump and it ran fine, solid voltage. Shut it off on the way home, same deal, dead. Popped the clutch and it wouldn't start?! I had to hold the key to start and pop the clutch to get it running again. The next day I checked my battery with a voltmeter, 14.7V. The car is completely fine when idling, driving, etc. Battery posts are clean, connections are tight, etc.

Any ideas? Thinking it's my alarm system (stock and never messed with afaik) but I'm not sure.

Check voltage w/ engine off. Your 14.7 was w/ engine on and alternator giving you the 14.7 volts. If your under 12 volts I'd say your battery is toast.Check w/ a battery load tester to be sure. You might want to check alternator output also.

My bad, that wasn't very clear. That was the next day after attempting (and failing) to start again.

take the battery to advance auto or one of those places, have them charge it and load test it... should be free... then be ready to buy a new battery especially if the battery is at least 5 years old
