SVTP Book Review: High-Performance Ford Mustang Buyer's Guide 1979-Present

As with the resent reposting of the review of Richard Holdener’s Building 4.6/5.4L Ford Horsepower on the Dyno this review was also posted some years back. Since that review was never posted in a conspicuous manner such as this I am now reposting a slightly updated version of it for the SVTP members who may have missed it the first time.

Once again SVTP has been asked to review an important new book in the High Performance Ford world, and we’re happy to report that this book is one of the greatest model overviews that we’ve had the privilege to read.

Travis Thompson penned High-Performance Ford Mustang Buyer's Guide 1979-Present for the purpose of providing the Mustang community with a comprehensive guide for the 1979-2005 model years.

This 144 page full color book covers all the improvements and changes that we’re made to the Mustang from the introduction of the Fox-body cars in 1979 through to the current S-197 platform. All the special features, including engine, drivetrain, suspension, and brakes, that differentiate models such as the Cobra, SVO, Mach I, and the Cobra R are given in an informative yet easy to read manner. Each chapter focuses on a specific era in the Mustang’s history. Furthermore, Thompson has given us information on the aftermarket support for many of the varying models, including those parts to which the cars best respond.

The SVTP staff found this book to be not only highly informative, but also a very entertaining read. Some personal favorites of the SVTP Admins were the Terminator and Fox-Cobra sections. Each of us that read the book commented that this is a must have for any Mustang fan. Finally, if you only buy this book for the beautiful pictures contained within its pages you will have made a smart decision. Here are a few sample pages:

6/1/2010 Update

Though this book is now dated by a few years, it is still a fantastic source of information for the models it does cover. You’d be hard pressed to find a better organized compellation or more thorough investigation of those models of Mustang. Anyone who has one of the above mentioned Mustangs or just a general interest in them should definitely purchase Travis Thompson’s High-Performance Ford Mustang Buyer's Guide 1979-Present.
