Lets say you have a 3400-3500lb (with driver), New Edge, 4.6 4V or Coyote, auto. What kind of power would it take to run 8's in a quarter with a single turbo.

I know there is a ton of variables. I am looking for a general idea.

Gonna be in the low teens atleast... I'm still disappointed all these 1100rwhp GT500S are still running mid to low 9s.

Apparently trans choice will have alot to do with it also.

With a proper converter and good 60ft in good weather I think 1000wheel to 1050whp. Might get away with less if your car manages some 60 launches and you’re blessed with -1000DA nights

At 3500 lbs u will need about a 1000 whp to go 150+ mph but at 3300 lbs (No driver) in a Coyote is gonna require a shitload of light weight stuff unless its swapped into something else. New edge can surely be made lighter than 11+ Mustangs.

U will make more hp at the track for sure tho than ur dyno number cause u will have load at the track and the street for that matter which is why a lot of guys melt there shit cause they tune em on the edge at the dyno.

Then melt them at the track with more boost from load. lol seen it happen dozens of times so probably 900+ whp on the dyno is what u will need. The 8 second pass will have a lot to do with ur 60 foot. I plan on pushing the limits of the single Turbo on a coyote soon myself.

no way. With that race weight you need 1000+
1000 wheel through a stalled auto, or 1000 motor hp? BIG difference there. Well set up auto car like that at 3400lbs could see 1.2x 60's. Too many variables, but you know this is as well as I do. It's all in that first 60' on that ET. 1300 wheel cars going 9s @ 165+....have to get the bitch to hook. Friend of mine made 1050 wheel through a magnum, weighs 3400 race weight, been 8.59. 1.33 60'. 165 trap speed. That was at a hell of a track, on kill, with killer DA. Been 8.6x's in 80+ degree weather though. Turbo pushrod car that revs to 7500. That is a decent comparison here since its 3400lbs and is turboed. Just a stick instead of an auto.

I can tell you that 11 to 1200 will get 4100 lbs deep into the 8s with twins on an 18 dr. Saw it happen a few years ago in a Power By The Hour car. Don't remember what the mph was.

I saw a 12, built 5.0 with a 2.9 whipple at about 3400 race weight go 8.67. The guy was straight up and said he was just a bit over 1k to the wheels but not 1050. It was an optimized set up and launched very hard.

^ There you have it! John getting it done, and that was before the engine build, right?

These sorts of threads make me feel good. I read the comments and walk away thinking I have a mid 8 second car. But in the back of mind I know I would probably run in the 12s if I ever took my car to the track :-(
