Just a couple of quick questions. Trying to save the paint, make washing easier, and try a different color scheme. 1) When it comes time to unwrap the car, will the stripes be pulled off with the wrap? I really want to keep the factory stripes, as the whole decal kit isn't cheap or easy to install. 2) Does a wrap offer some protection against impact damage? 3) What's a typical price to do a whole car? 4) Is there a brand that is better or highly recommended? A shop will be doing the work. Thanks!
You get most of your answers in this thread. You'll want to read through the entire thread. https://www.svtperformance.com/forums/threads/so-you-wanted-a-ghig-gt500.951398/ You can Google the pros and cons of a vinyl wrap. The wrap WILL protect your paint from most road (debris) rash, scratches, swirl marks, and paint fading, but the wrap itself has a limited life of around 5-7 years typically. If you have a shop do a full wrap, it isn't cheap, but cheaper than a good paint job. Figure at least $2500. How much more over that depends on your specific wrap.
What cobrabob said. Also, you won't be able to keep your factory stripes if you want to put a wrap over them. Because they're not painted on, they sit higher than the rest of the body panel. If you put a wrap over them you'll easily be able to tell there are stripes under there, and it will just not look right. You'll have to remove them or maybe the shop can cut some vinyl to the exact width of your factory stripes and lay that over them. You probably wouldn't be able to tell at that point.
Good info so far, thanks! Don't want to lose the stripes. That's pretty much a deal breaker for me, at this point.
