Seeing as how I guess I'm a dunce, how do I get the stock tilt lever off?...

It probably unscrews off.
That's what I thought but if it is that simple, mine is sure hard to get started and I'm afraid that if I exert too much pressure, I may damage something...
Mine just unscrewed, cant remember how hard it was, but as long as you dont bent it and twist counter clockwise I dont see how you can brake it.
my was very very hard to unscrew but after a while it came off, ford puts lock tight on it so its very hard to get off. try using a rubber can opener thing to get a better grip.
grab ahold of that b!tch and let the screwing begin! (unscrewing that is!).
Yeah, I've got MGW billet throughout my interior and that piece was a little shaky to get off...but it comes off.
