I'm trying to figure out why my 2001 cobra seems to not have full power. I just recorded a log of 2nd and 3rd gear. Timing on the hit is 16 deg and climbs to 20.25 deg at 6500rpms. 19 deg is the highest I seen in 3rd gear.

Knock sensors go from 28 on the hit to 523 at 6500. Then 294 on the shift to 3rd and climbs to 636 at 6500 rpms

Is this normal? I thought timing would be a lot higher. The car only has exhaust. Stock tune as far as I know

O/r x, SLP catback. Nothing else done. Seems to run great, no issues at all to report other than it is severely lacking power.

How do you know it's lacking power? I don't remember the exact numbers, but I want to say stock timing was in the mid 20's at WOT. But the ECU is always making adjustments so what's commanded in the table may not be what the engine actually sees.

Wonder if these cars are prone to false knock like the coyotes can be....On 93 with that timing, there should be no knock. The real question is whether the ECM is seeing real knock or false knock. What do the plugs look like after a WOT pull?

Good question. Here's a roll race from 2nd gear against a truck that runs 13.8@104mph. 2nd gear seems fine but it's as if I let off the gas in 3rd gear. Unless I'm completely wrong, I believe a stock 01 cobra traps in the 102-104mph area.

My best time in my stock 01 was around 13.9. I don't remember the mph. Not that I'm an awesome driver or anything.

Have you seen that truck run? Or did he tell you what it runs?

If you're really worried throw it on a dyno and see what it puts down.

Yes, we ran the truck at the track the same day this video was taken. I may get someone to datalog and tune it. If what I'm logging is correct, I don't see why it has knock with 93 octane.

fyi, my previous 01 GT ran 13.50s@104mph with just exhaust and 3.73s.

Gears help a lot with these cars. Back in the day a lot of guys used to swap to 4.10's if they were staying N/A. A couple were really brave and went 4.56. For forced induction 3.73's seemed to be the main choice.

A loud exhaust can cause false knock sometimes.

Yeah, I'd say that's about right for trap speed. Stock I went 13.3 @ 105 20 years ago. But my times and trap were always on the faster/higher side for stock.

I went 4.30s when N/A and now with my Eaton hit the limiter in 4th before the end of the 1/4. One day I'll go to 3.55.

I couldn’t imagine more than a 4.10 but I only had a GT that revved to 6200. The cobras rev so much higher so the 4.30 would be cool.
