IMO, they're entirely different cars. The '03 is far superior as far as quality, handling and drive. But, you don't own a '93 cobra for comfort, or ride quality. You own it for what it is. The coolest fox body built, it's rarety, uniqueness, and the muscle car feel. Also, I feel there is more room in my fox than there is in my Term by a long shot.

I sold my last '93 and swore I'd never go back. Not because of any particular issue, but because I really like the advances of the newer stangs. Since then I realized there were elements of the '93 that I missed that the new cars don't have.

It's like owning an old muscle car. You don't own it for any other reason but what it is. I know this is not the same, and value aside, but it's like saying, I'm going to sell my Boss 429 because it doesn't have a/c. Or, I'm going to sell my '00 R because it doesn't have a stereo, or the road noise is too much, or it rides too stiff. 93 cobra's IMO are a toy, second car, accessory, they're not owned because of how great they handle, or smooth they are, or great the plastic looks. They're modern muscle/collector cars. They're owned because that's the passion you have for the best fox body ever made and the admiration you get from every mustang owner out there.

Hope this makes sense. I've been on both sides of the fence, and I'd be incomplete without one.

They are replaceable though, so sell it if you're not happy. You can (and probably will) get another one when you're ready.

very well put.

LOL with my new n/a combo, my car definitely feels like an old muscle car :-D

+1,000,000---EXACTLY...not about how fast it is or that it lacks new technology...(it is 14 years old)..its about saying "I own a 93 Cobra!"

Don't Sell It!!

I sold my 1993 Cobra I bought new...wanted something different...2 years later I bought it back. It's here to stay now. Lesson learned.

Original owner is awesome, and you have a history with that car. Unfortunately I have commitment issues with my cars (and women it seems).

I don't see how many of your complaints can't be addressed.
-Not being fast enough is a lot easier to fix than buying a new car is, and no car is easier to make stupid fast than a 5.0 Fox.
-Ineffectual factory stereo system... are you kidding me? That's easier (and cheaper) to fix than the lack of power. For under a grand you can put in a system that is twice as good as the factory crap in ANY newer Mustang.

I have no idea where you're coming from with the crampy interior and lack of room. Granted, the Fox was made to be driven by monkeys and the '05+ platform has addressed much of that, but I don't have any more room to sit in my fathers '01 GT than I have in my '93 Cobra. In fact, I feel more cramped in his car. Furthermore, on more than one occasion we've had to use my Cobra to transport something that could not be made to fit in his '01. "No real room in the car"? Compared to the newer stangs? That's funny. My hatchback Cobra has way more usable space than any Mustang made since 1993.

I don't know about the harsh ride either, since the '93 Cobra has a softer ride than the '93 GT and LX did, and it's every bit as comfy a ride as my dad's stock '01 GT or my buddies stock '98 GT, and not even close to as stiff as my other friends stock '95 Cobra or Terminator. And if yours doesn't ride how you like, there are more suspension components made for the Fox than any other car on the planet. If you want a soft ride and better handling, add a panhard to the stock stuff and take everyone who thinks they're special to school on every exit ramp.

As for the un-addressable issues (boxy looking body style, shiny plastic interior), well... it's like this: you either like the '93 Cobra or you don't. Or maybe I should say, you either like it enough to justify having one, or you don't. Only you can answer that. It doesn't have the fit and finish (or the "hey look!" factor) of the s195, and it never will- so it's a matter of priorities. I know what you mean about the rubberneckers- short of ruining it there isn't much to be done to get more attention than putting a cowl hood on and chroming the wheels. I never get any comments on my car from anyone who doesn't already like Fox Mustangs, but if you had a '05+ you wouldn't be able to leave a gas station without making new friends. That doesn't bother me. Based on what you've said, it sounds like you should just sell it. However, you being the original owner and all (an extremely rare piece of fortune for you) I'm with everone who told you to think very carefully about how you'll feel when it's gone. You can always get another one, but you'll never again be the original owner of one. It would really suck to find yourself trying to replace your '93 Cobra with a time machine.

Very well put. And totally true. If you're not happy with it, sell it. You'll either realize what you had once it's gone, or you'll be happier with whatever you choose to replace it with.

I'm totally happy with every aspect of mine, however I've found something I'd like to have more than it, so it's probably going to get sold.

Personally, I don't know anyone that takes notice of a new mustang (or any newer car), as they are nothing special. For christ sake, you can rent yourself a Shelby at Hertz. Real exclusive club there.

Meanwhile, my wife bitches because every time somone comes to do work at my house (cable, phone, carpet, etc.), she winds up having to spend a half hour conversing with these workmen about the cars in my garage. I've got a mint '72 Mach 1 parked on a lift above the '93, which I'm the original owner of. Half the time, these guys wind up calling friends to tell them about the '93. Can't believe it's original paint, low miles etc....

Can you honestly say anyone makes a big deal about a terminator or even new GT500. They are both a dime a dozen here in New Jersey.

(BTW, no smart comments about my wife and the workmen:nono: )

I get a lot of attention with my Terminator, probably equal to that of my '93. But nothing like I get in my old cars. When I would get gas in my Galaxie or my '66 mustang, people will literally pull off the road just to make a comment about them, or have their kids wait in the car while they come over to ask questions.

There's nothing like the attention you get from having a classic car.

Did someone just put "GT500" in the same sentence with "dime a dozen"?

Uhh... yeah.

Whatever.

Uhh, I pass 3 regularly on the way to work, and I can just imagine how many will be around in the spring when the weather gets better and more have been sold. It really depends whhere you live.

If you live in the NY metro area, yes they are fairly common, along with a lot of other rare cars or "Exotics".

Fiarly common sights on my commute (not that they are commuting, but they are on the road) are a couple of Ford GTs, some Bently's, dozens of 911 turbos, Ferraris, etc.

There will be many more this spring one the wall street workers spend their obscene year end bonuses

I'm not suggesting you don't see them. There are two that I see regularly around my area. My house is exactly halfway between two of the biggest casinos in the world, I see more exotics every day than the readers of Road&Track. To say that they are a dime a dozen is just stupid, just like saying any of the cars you mentioned are. "Common" are the 150 Honda Civics or Acura RSX's that you pass for every 3 GT500's.
NOBODY looks twice at my Cobra unless they are already Mustang fans and of them, most don't even see that it isn't a GT. I drive this thing every day almost completely un-noticed. That would not be the case in a GT500, or even an s195 V6. I've been at the gas station fueling up next to '05 V6 convertables and watched while three different people commented on how cool the owners car was while not even noticing my pristine Vibrant Red Fox Cobra on the other side of the pump. It's a simple fact. If you haven't noticed this, get your vision checked.

I agree. You see them because they stand out. You're just not noticing all the other cookie cutter cars.

My ex bought a yellow Mitsu Lancer. At the time we thought it was pretty cool because I hadn't seen very many. After she bought it is when I realized I saw yellow lancers everywhere. It's most likely because I simply notice them all now, and they stand out, not that there are really that many on the road.

My boss has a GT500 so I see one regularly too. I have 4 friends with Terminators so I see them all the time too, that doesn't mean they're common by any means.

Maybe we have a different perspective, but I really just don't care what a non-enthusiast would notice or not notice. Since they are clueless, their opinion is somewhat meaningless to me.

I feel a lot better to have someone who really knows about Mustangs, or cars in general, take notice and say something to me.

If you just want a reaction from people, buy a civic and slap on a big wing, an R-type badge and a fart-can exhaust. You'll get plenty of notice, but will it really make you feel good? (Hopefully you don't say yes)

We seem to. My perspective is the same as the topic creators, which is the relevant one. Your's isn't. WE were talking about rubberneckers in general, you're talking about the Mustang enthusiast community exclusively. You're welcome to your opinion, but it's borderline off topic. Don't get me wrong, I feel the same way you do about our cars- but it's another subject entirely.

I love my 93. Like everyone else says, it’s the simplicity that makes it so great. I leave the style, quality and comfort to the daily drivers. That's why I want to get an M3 or S4. The newer mustangs are fun too but they just don't have the feel to them like a muscle car should. That whole, I'm inside a rickety death trap, that's load, reeks of exhaust and puts a big smile across my face.

Why dont you sell it and let us know how you feel in a couple of months or so......Keep us posted. If you really, really enjoyed it you will be searching for another one exactly like the one you USED to have. Good Luck!
