Who among us really knows their stuff? I've heard of the Boss 302, Boss 351C, and Boss 429 being underrated from the factory. So what's up with the 93 Cobra engine? I've heard everything from 235 to 275. So what was the true documented rating, and what different engine components got it to that number?

Thanks BLK93GT-I had no idea they made that kind of power. I remember a Car Craft article years ago called "A Cold Day In Hell" where they took a 93 Cobra, slapped a Vortech on it and it went a hair over 200 mph. I wish I could find that magazine.

Talk about understatement. You make it sound like all they did was put a blower on a stock Cobra. That car had a built 347 (duttweiler?) with a cog driven Vortech and a ton of boost, DFI, switched to 2.73 gears and used several rolls of tape :lol1: to hit 200mph. Remember, the Cobra was a brick on wheels - it needs LOTS of power to go fast.

Yeah, it's been awhile since I read that. The clip states 5L dispacement, TFS heads, miscellaneous SVO parts, a cog driven Vortech, and it looks like a box intake-far from stock. Oh, and I can't forget all that tape for the headlights and front seams-haha. I was surprised to hear that guy say that it was pretty stable at speed. Who would've guessed? Impressive for the early 90s! Thanks for the links BLK93GT.

with just a e303 cam i put down 264hp 304 ft/lbs with no porting to the heads. kind of a big jump for just a cam so i was thinking some of them might have put 230 or so to the wheels.

Remember also Ford changed the way the rated the HP on all of the Mustangs that year, down 20 hp from the previous. So I'd say it is safe to say these cars were closer to 255 flywheel from the factory.

Anyone with a stocker wanna put it on a dyno?

And just for the record, the 302 is really a 4.95.....:)

My first cobra made 227rwhp on a Dynojet. The car was completely stock down to the paper filter.

So with 15% DT loss it puts it around 267 at the crank. Rings true to what I've heard about these cars. Even at a smaller DT loss, it's still a solid 260.

yea which would explain a 235 fwhp to around 290 to 300 fwhp with the e303 haha. there is one on youtube i think dynoing with only exhaust and it gets around 235 to the wheels.

I had a friend with a 93 Cobra, i had one as well. He and I did almost the same mods to our engines. GT40X alum. heads, LT headers, Extrude Honed intake, and larger MASS air meter (73mm). He had his dynoed and it put down 275 HP at the rear wheels. This is with stock cam and shortblock. That would equal about 315 HP at the flywheel.

305/335 rw. on all stock parts except cam and exhaust. but there was alot of porting on the heads by me. they do have potential to make great power
