Interesting video. I would how frequent a repaint happens without it being documented. I'm guessing that if it is repainted before it is sold, it doesn't have to be documented and made a part of the vehicle's history?

Yep! Buddy of mine worked in a body shop and had new cars in there all the time for repairs...as long as it is repaired, there is nothing to report.
They actually replaced the roof of a brand new car that got crushed by the carrier. Although he said that one went to auction.

LOL at this paint meter video.

Did mr. paint meter check his current Hellcats:
- seats?
- inside trunk lid paint?
- floor pan under carpet?
- sealer application on underbody seams?
- exhaust tubing bend angles?
Etc, etc...

Its not a "perfect" world mr. paint meter. It never will be.
Components, subassemblies, assemblies, completed products are reworked all the time.

If you wanna buy 100% perfect products, you will not want to see the price.

Do you want to tell him he's owned cars with repainted panels before or should I?

Don't drink this Karen's Flavor-Aid.

BTW: Is the paint meter manufacturer a sponsor of his?

A ton of new cars are sent to the body shop for transport or lot damage.

I remember watching a little old sales guy pull up a 2003 Anniversary Terminator for a customer back in the day. We used to have the big bulky lockbox that hung on the window. When pulling up, he hit the window switch to talk to the customer forgetting the box was on still (you were supposed to remove it when you got in the car). Being the window had the one touch auto down, I watched the box come down and gouge the door..... the customer's face was of sheer horror. He passed, car went to the body shop, and another guy bought it never knowing it happened.

There are plenty of new cars that get paint work done to them. Back in 04 when I was looking for a new GT, I found a screaming yellow GT and when I went to look at it the window was scrapping the roof pillar and needed to be repaired and window adjusted. I passed on that and found a Comp O GT at a different dealer which is the one I settled on.

Used to fix transport damage and flaws all the time for a local Ford dealer. Your new car ain't going to be perfect from the factory every time. Who cares anyways? Aftermarket paints and clears are just as good, if not better than what is used at the factory, and shops can prevent or fix orange peel which is typical with new cars.

The guy in the video is obviously a car collector/flipper of zero mile factory original cars. That's the only kind of guy that paint thickness would matter to.

Paint damage is common in transport.

Reminds me of a thread I found a lot of years back, I can not for the life of me remember some of the details. Dude was from England I think, and had the cleanest car in Europe.

He bought a Nurburgring edition GTI, I think, or maybe a Megane, or Clio.

Dude was insane, special ordered it and found a .5mm paint drip on the roof of the car and very nearly gave it back. A friend talked him out of it because the rest of the car was good, and they could fix that issue. He spent like 3 weeks detailing it before driving it. When I say detailing, I mean like pulling the carpet, seats and trim out and polishing the paint under the carpet.

Granted he wasn't doing this for resale, it was just his OCD on stuff. He was extremely upset that there was a paint marker swipe inside the car, under the trim.

The car restorer guys go nuts trying to duplicate every chaulk mark and other assembly line marks to increase the resale of the car.

Buddy of mine bought a 2010 GT500...trans fluid or something had leaked on the hood from car above. Car was disassembled and resprayed black. He got a smoking deal on it too!

A LOT of news cars get body/paint work.
