Sharpening the Shelby
VMP Performance kicks off its GT350 project car with a custom tune

Walk into the VMP Performance shop and you will see several modern Mustangs. From fully functional race cars too a brand new Mustang GT being dissembled for a rebirth as a Coyote Modified racer. Open the door to the dyno room and there’s something special strapped to the Dynojet rollers. That Avalanche Gray machine is a brand-new Shelby GT350 and Justin Starkey has already peered into its PCM and started tweaking some parameters.

"VMP will begin offering packages with CARB EO numbers later in 2016."

Very impressive!

Wow! I wonder how they gained that much with just a pump gas tune. That's pretty amazing.

Because Justin and BJ are pretty bad ass. ;-)

Apparently. Add E85 to that, and they're pushing a 40-50whp gain on fuel and tune alone. Would they be able to smooth out the low end torque plateau anymore than that though? I'm as interested in that as I am overall gains.

OMG!! They actually lifted a front wheel with stock wheel and tire setup?!?!?! Wow! And it was only an 11.99@118 pass!?! I didn't think something like that was possible!

Traction and launch. With slicks and just 400rwhp you can lift a tire off of the ground in a 2002 trans-am.

Yeah, but that was stock wheels and tires. Remember just a few years back how Shelby American took a lot of heat from an internet firestorm when they posted up a doctored picture of the Super Snake lifting the front wheels off the line. People analyzed that pic to death, and NO ONE thought it was even possible with stock wheels and tires.

That bit super hard. The car probably would have gone 11.7 if it didn't bog so hard.

The wheelie wasn't on the 11.99 pass, but they isolated it here...

They still bogged very badly on the 11.99 pass. I think 11.7s would be doable, but they're going to have to get the low end torque sorted before the bog goes away. I wonder if they could smooth the low end out more for the customers that didn't live in California.

Great gain, but the after numbers are more inline with what most other shops are getting in 100% stock trim.. Just sayin...

It is interesting to me that Lund seems to be the only one talking about a Flex Fuel tune which obviously has an advantage over any straight pump gas tune.

The car dyno'd 449/370 bone stock. With a tune 474/390 at 8250rpm
Launch control works very well and was the reason I was able to pull a tire.
It is very odd shifting the car at over 8000.
I am running the car at a half mile event this weekend.

Is that starting from a dig or a roll?
