The new OS from Microsoft I believe is called "Longhorn" If memory serves me correctly. I have doen a little reading and seen a few screen shots and it appears to be very similiar. I think I even read that Vista was a "Prototype to Longhorn".....or whatever then end up naming it.

I currently run Vista 64bit Ultimate and love it. I dont have any other probs with it then XP gave me. Just have to adjust to change! Which most cant seem to grasp. I know vista uses alot more memory but it runs so much quicker than xp in all my experience with it using all the design programs I do....Just my .02

I have vista on my laptop, I turned off UACs, did a few tweaks and it runs fine. I think some of you people just need something to complain about.

Agreed. I built my new rig about three months ago. I hesitated at first to put vista on it, but went ahead anyway. It's been running rock solid ever since. I've had no crashes, no driver issues, no pop ups, no viruses, and it's fast as hell. I was one of those that didn't wanna switch, but now that I have, there's nothing that makes me miss XP.

'Whistler' was the codename for WinXP
'Longhorn' was the codename for Vista

You're thinking 'Blackcomb' (Win7), which I think was either changed or encorp. with 'Vienna'

idk how reliable this source is, my neighbor works for Microsoft here in Seattle, and he told me that nothing will be released before 2010, hence all the vista promoting they have been doing, he also said they are working on some sort of service pack to fix the bugs that should be availiable shortly. I personaly dont like or not like vista, but would probably change if it comes out earlier
If the guy really knows more then we can find out on the internet and is sharing information, he is in violation of his NDA.
DX-10 is the only real advancement of Vista.
But....

oh my gaming rig has xp sp2 dont get me wrong, my laptop has vista though, with 4 gigs ram, a core 2 duo and a decent video card(7900gs) it does a damn good job with whatever i need, i use it for all my internet stuff, firefox 3 and vista are a badass combo, ive had this laptop since march '07 and i got rid of norton after my 6 month free trial was up, since then i have ran no virus software, and two freeware spyware programs, i dl a lot of porn, music, movies, and have my external harddrive filled and half my 160gig onboard filled, have never had a popup or virus and rarely have spyware found(i watch a lot of porn too), no glitches, nothing, the laptop gets somewhat hot when playing cs:s for 12 straight hours and its been beat up physically(missing some keys, lots of scratches, but vista and firefox have never let me down.

i dont see what so many peoples problems are with it, its done me well, i hardly use my gaming rig anymore because this works so well.

Ok we get it... you watch a lot of porn

You are correct.
I like XP, and was actually one of the few people
doing advanced Beta testing for "Whistler".
Did a lot of work on network install directions for OEM's and MS.
MS has a habit of writing things in "Microsoft-ese".
I sort of fought with them to write it in English.
Good company though, they were always good to me.

When it comes to Vista, the only thing going away is its name and perhaps appearance. Microsoft invested HUGELY in the core of this operating system and they are not about to pull the plug on it. This is why the next operating system is based on Vista internals.

Vista is not really going anywhere but forward with a new mask.

I'm using XP and Vista and honestly say I like Vista more. That might be because the Vista computer is five years newer and more up to date.
