As the puzzle comes together, Windows 7 shapes up to become a major patch for Vista that is packed with feature additions such as multi-touch for touchscreens, but it won’t be an entirely new operating system. That, we hear, will be ready in the 2011-2012 time frame. And pretty much everything we are told points directly to a development platform that is based on Microsoft’s Singularity software.

? its not a replacement anyway

I didn't read much of the article but Vista is here already. Microsoft still honors XP and updates it somewhat regularly. I trust the same will be done for Vista.

M$ has to sell as many copies as possible to at least cover some of the development costs.
XP has been around a while. You can't say the same for Vista. I wish Vista was a evolutionary replacement for XP as XP was for '98/ME. It is an epic failure regardless of how much M$ spends on advertisement.
I'm still running XP Pro SP2. If you've downloaded all the SP2 updates it = SP3.
No need to waste the time installing SP3.

idk how reliable this source is, my neighbor works for Microsoft here in Seattle, and he told me that nothing will be released before 2010, hence all the vista promoting they have been doing, he also said they are working on some sort of service pack to fix the bugs that should be availiable shortly. I personaly dont like or not like vista, but would probably change if it comes out earlier

Having an all-Intel system (mobo and CPU) I installed SP3 to my XP-Pro. It seems to run a little better, and it certainly boots up/shuts down more quickly. Vista may be OK for people who don't know what goes on under the hood, but I'll stick with XP.

I have vista on my laptop, I turned off UACs, did a few tweaks and it runs fine. I think some of you people just need something to complain about.

oh my gaming rig has xp sp2 dont get me wrong, my laptop has vista though, with 4 gigs ram, a core 2 duo and a decent video card(7900gs) it does a damn good job with whatever i need, i use it for all my internet stuff, firefox 3 and vista are a badass combo, ive had this laptop since march '07 and i got rid of norton after my 6 month free trial was up, since then i have ran no virus software, and two freeware spyware programs, i dl a lot of porn, music, movies, and have my external harddrive filled and half my 160gig onboard filled, have never had a popup or virus and rarely have spyware found(i watch a lot of porn too), no glitches, nothing, the laptop gets somewhat hot when playing cs:s for 12 straight hours and its been beat up physically(missing some keys, lots of scratches, but vista and firefox have never let me down.

i dont see what so many peoples problems are with it, its done me well, i hardly use my gaming rig anymore because this works so well.

Mine runs fine, got the service pack update the other day and I can't tell the difference. No pop ups at all. I like it fine but, I don't play games or download music so maybe that helps me.

Outlaw,I said the same thing about 98/se.
