What is Everyone Using For Big Fuel Pumps These Days?

While my current Fuelab external pump performs great, it's noisy, noticeable, and leaves room for improvement when it comes to ground clearance and sharp cornering with low fuel levels. I'm looking to swap to an in-tank setup with even more flow for the next engine.

Looking around at options, it seems things have changed drastically since I last shopped. I'm curious what people are recommending these days.

Fuelab has great options and all kinds of trick gear. The only downside is prices are through the roof on them. What I bought in the past has nearly doubled.

Aeromotive has plenty of options, maybe not as versatile as Fuelab and also quite pricey.

Deatschwerks has a new 810lph brushless pump that might do the trick. It looks like it only has the capability of low and high speed modulation though.

Walbro's latest and greatest offering is a 525lph Hellcat pump. A pair of those would fit the bill and work in a Cobra tank. I could re-install my dual FPDM setup and have them fully modulated using the stock ECM, Megasquirt, or Arduino controls in conjunction with the FPDMs. That seems like a great combination of capability, simplicity, and cost.

And what does everyone like for fuel tank hats? The billet ones are nice, but I've already had good luck running stock ones with bulkhead fittings.

I'm running twin 465 pumps. You can get triple pump hats and run 3 of them if you want. Then you can stage the pumps to run off of boost, or depending on your computer you can stage them in the software.

Twin 465s here, one is on a Hobbs switch using the fore FC3 module. Still on stock computer, not making big power but it should hold decent power. I’m still on base 40-42psi pressure. If ever need to upgrade I’ll switch to a 3 pump hat.

Twin TI auto 285s (walbro 525)in a fore hat with FC3 controller. Staged for the 2nd pump to come on at 5lbs of boost via Hobbs switch

Stock ECU - base pressure set at 40psi. FIC1200 injectors on E85. I have fuel for days still. No issues.

I just updated from my twin 465lph pumps to the new 525lph pumps along with a #10 feed line and a inline stainless steel filter/housing.
My 2003 Mach (terminator swap) makes 800rwhp with a VMP supercharger and I was having lean issues at WOT.
Now it has no problem pulling up to 60# fuel pressure under boost and maintaining consistent fuel pressure.
I have a cobra tank and a division-X hat.

Not running yet but i pieced together my fuel system. Went with the aeromotive brushless 5gpm variable speed pump. 10an feed and return. Glenn’s sumped tank. Fore regulator. ID1300’s…..will be on flex fuel and MS3. Pump works off TPS signal to change fuel flow so no FPDM tuning required.

For me personally i wanted an external pump i could easily service. Goal is 1000hp and so i wanted 1 big pump instead of multiple…

Not many good places to mount the pump along with two big filters on each side. Its every bit of 2feet long. I ended up replacing it the rear factory crash bar with a tubular one…..which then left me with a nice flat surface on the body…i drilled the holes into the trunk right under the license plate…..then cut a backing plate out of 1/4in steel to mount on inside of trunk. Now entire pump sits nicely tucked. Only problem is that its above the tank….but ive seen others mounted similarly so ill try that out and see.

i have a BBRC sumped tank and a big weldon pump. Im planning on going back to a cobra tank and a triple pump set up from fore. The combo works great but i dont race my car and the sumped tank looks racecar-ish.

Yeah that's similar to the setup I'm running. The problem is with external pumps they really want to be low for proper fuel feed. That can lead to catching the bracket in certain situations, especially on a low car. I've got mine mounted just behind the tank using an aluminum bracket mounted to the body in a similar location. Don't get me wrong, it absolutely works and is amazing for serviceability. I can do filters in a matter of minutes. It's also great with the Fuelab Prodigy pump with integrated controller. But it is noisy, and even with my brackets that hide the pump, it's fairly noticeable. If you don't mind those things, I'm sure you'll be happy.

Thanks to everyone- definitely confirms that running dual 525s is a good option, even with all the new and flashy stuff out on the market. Sometimes it really is good to stick to K.I.S.S.

I think I will still try to run them with the FPDMs. It should be a piece of cake with the stock ECU, but I'll have to see if the MSPNP supports the low frequency input to the FPDM. If not, nothing the little Arduino controller I have can't do.

The MS3 can run the FPDM. But I'm not sure if the FPDM can handle the 525's. You might be able to run a PWM through an SSR. There was someone on the MS boards that was working with a company to make a controller that could handle big pumps. He ended up happy with it.

I ran a glens sump tank with a magnafuel 4303 pump. Its not a brushless pump but for the money that pump flat out works. Ran the 4303 for years and mounted off the rear just above the sump but still hidden by the rear bumper. The beauty of a single pump is you will know instantly if theres an issue. The pump will sound different. With external its a easy fix swapped out pumps or cleaning filters.

I run triple 525's in a CPe hat. I would run one full time and have the other turned on when you hit 1lb of boost. This is easily set up in the aftermarket computer. There is zero need for FPDM's, hobbs, Fore controllers etc. Just need a couple relays. Keep things simple is always the best answer.

I kept it simple but spent a lot of money haha. BBRC tank (not sumped) w/internal Magnafuel Pro-750, still triggered by stock fpdm for priming. Easily flows enough for my ID1300s on corn.
