I've got a 09 gt500 with 400 miles on it but haven't had it past 1/2 throttle @3000rpm. What is the break in period, It's killing me not hammering it! How long do I have to wait before I pulley and tune it?
From what Ive been reading. People had them pullied and tuned like right after they left dealership. Most people had bought parts for the car before they bought car. Break in period is up to you. Just depends on how much you want to baby your car.
There is no break in period to my knowledge. The engine is ran and tested at ford before installing it in the car. Not 100% sure about a break in period. When i test drove my shelby i lost about 1/4 of the rear tires tread in about an hour. LOL But i didn't buy my shelby to sell on Barrett-Jackson in 35 years either. I wouldn't worry about hammering the car IMO, if you want to have some fun go for it. These cars were definately built for it.
Correct break in is shifting at 6000 rpms through the first five gears before 50 miles on the odometer. This also eliminates the I dont think my supercharger is working question as well! This will guarantee a positive break in-And please do this in a safe place!
I've always lived by the break it in fast and it will be fast motto!!! Sounds like yours is going to be slow....400 miles WTF? :rolling:
I saw that Engine Break-in article too. Interesting part about running it hard to mate the rings to the cylinder bores. Makes total sense. Hey Vegas, you been to a test & tune at the Speedway yet?
6000rpm shifts thru the first 5 gears huh...nice. I like your style. My supercharger is definetely making boost, guess it's time to smoke the hides!
Before the first 200 miles you need to warm it up completely then a few pulls from 2k-5.8k then a complete cool down. do that twice, then put a few hundred more miles on it and your good to go.
Yup.....snapped an axle 2nd run on opening night. Farkin' track was STICKY!!! [of course, 305 MT D/R's helped a tad too....:burnout:] Put a stock rear back in (3.55's) not gonna hammer on it again until we either rebuild the broke unit or step up to a 9" like I saw a member here running.
I'm going to try to make it next month but I know it will be a joke because of these damn F1's. I can't wait till they wear out.
This ONLY makes sense for race engines. Keep in mind, they are rebuilt from scratch after every race. Doing it this way does give you a solid breakin, but it dramaticly decreases engine life, and to race cars who cares it will be rebuilt the next week anyway.
I don't believe the clutch and drivetrain is broken in so I would not abuse the clutch until you hit about 500 miles, that is what I did and no problems not even the dreaded tsb issue
