My car is getting finished up today with a T-56 swap.

Since I've dropped the car off at the shop I've gotten some weird information and feedback from the installers.

For one, I bought a 26 spline input shaft for it and it doesn't fit in the transmission. So I had to stick with the stock 10 spline in the tranny. (So I’m guessing that means it doesn’t have 03/04 T56 gear ratios?)

The 2003 Cobra crossmember I purchased needs modification to fit.

The strangest part is that my STOCK 2001 Cobra driveshaft fits up whereas the 2003 Cobra driveshaft I bought off a member off here doesn't fit.

The techs have told me over the phone that they think the T56 is a Borg & Warner and not a tremec. But I have not confirmed this 100% still.

Does anybody have any idea as to what type of T56 this could be and what kind of car it could have potentially come off of??

There should be some numbers on the side of the case. Get those and give Tremec a call.

Ford and GM's use the the same trans, but some have different parts. The GM and Ford T5 is a different input shaft for one. One uses a coarse thread and the other a fine, I forget which uses each one though. If for some reason yours doesn't fit maybe you have the GM version? The T56 has been out for a while so its possible you have the wrong one. There is a also a Dodge version too which may be the same as the Ford or GM. What side are the electronics on? An 03 cobra T56 will be on the passenger side of the housing instead of driver's side like you car has from Ford.

I agree get the #'s and call Tremec and have them run.

does it have 6 forward gears? Can the bell housing be removed externally? Will it bolt to a 4.6?

Guys the tranny did bolt in and I drove it home today. I took some pictures of the gauges on the freeway in 6th gear and I'm relieved to see that I don't have that huge 0.50 6th gear that some T56s come with. However my first three gears seem to be just as short as my TR3650 so I'm assuming that it has the '00R spec ratios. (booo)

The shop said that the tranny appeared to be an older T56 model and was without a doubt not a 03/04 T56. I wasn't able to do the 26 spline swap while it was out as it wouldn't fit and I had to use my old '01 Cobra driveshaft to reach the rear properly.

I'll try to see if I can get a glance at the tranny model number tomorrow and look it up.

I prefer the 00R ratios over the 03/04 but the viper .50 6th is nice.

 I agree with KXT. The 00R Ratios are very nice to have. I have driven a 00R and I loved how the tranny was set up:rockon: That nice low gear in sixth is nice to have as well.

I know most guys prefer the '00R ratios but I have 4.56 gears and wanted to tame out my first three gears with the T56 swap. First is a tad bit longer now but I've done the swap now and feel like I'm back where I started!

Something does tell me that I will appreciate these ratios better in the long run though; as in after I get done with a blower plus some longer rear gears like 4.10s.

KXT, thanks for the info!

I've been dying to get under the car and find a model number on the tranny but my floor jack is broken. Hopefully I'll get a chance to borrow a friend's today and check it out.

FWIW I'm pretty sure my tech said that my T-56 had an input shaft that had splines of 10/29.

According to your ratio listing I'm 100% sure its the '00R specs beacuse my first is a little bit longer now but my 2nd and 3rd feels just as short or even shorter than the TR3650 I had.
