It's a tough decision and I just went through the same exact dilemma. I just retired from the USAF after serving 21 years (also 41 years old). We have been blessed over the years and from a financial standpoint I don't have to work anymore. My wife is also Active Duty and over the years we have heavily invested into TSP and its paid off. For me it wasn't about the money, I was concerned with that the hell I would do. Prior to COVID I would of gladly said I could stay home and never work again. I quickly learned being home all the time isn't for me. I was bored while teleworking and after finishing up a few house projects I had nothing to do. Once I started terminal leave I found a contracting job working Acquisitions for the USAF. If it doesnt work out I can always leave but I have something that keeps me occupied. Once the wife retires I will probably look for a part time job to keep me somewhat busy. I think you are on the right track by wanting to work part time at a golf course or car dealership. That would keep you busy enough where you wont go crazy and are able to help the wife during tax season. As long as you are set financially, make sure you have something to keep you occupied and you will be fine.
