I'm am trying to figure out the difference between a 1993 cobra and a stock GTs spacing in the rear/front axle. I have heard that because we have 4 wheel disc brakes on our cobras that their is a measurment discrepancy between the two. Normally this would not bother me, but I am looking to upgrade my car from a 4lug to a 5lug with "FRPP M2300K Cobra Brake Kit" and at the same time do either a full Griggs suspension "GR-40 autocross setup" or a Maximum Motorsprt "Road & Track Box setup." I guess my question is this, while ordering these suspension setups is there any part or parts that would have to be special ordered seeing as how the kit are made specificly for regular 93 GT Foxbodies Also I am wondering if I should install the brakes and suspension in a certain order to avoid an issues durring an install. Thank for your feedback in advance

On the front brakes you shouldn't have any problems becasue the only brake difference between the GT/LX and the cobra is the added metal on the center of the rotor where the wheel meets the rotor.

As far as rear brakes go, I am not sure, since this kit is designed to upgrade from drum brakes. You can probably call a Ford Motorsport tech line for that answer.

The spacing difference between the GT & Cobra will make no difference because the M2300K Brake kit replaces everything on the front and rear.

Make sure you save all the 93 Cobra brake parts and don't damage them. A lot of people want the 4 lug cobra brakes so you can get a good amount of money back by selling the stuff.

I ordered the Baer 13in front kit for my car 2 weeks ago. I went with 4-lug so that I could retain my stock wheels.

You are aware that our wheels don't have enough clearance due to the backspacing to fit the 13 in calipers. If you didn't know I would call them to verify this info because just yesterday I was told this info by 2 of their tecs. I believe the 12 inchers work though

I've used Baer products before and would highly recommend them. Lee, I believe Liv4Spd is correct, the 13" calipers won't fit our stock 17" wheels. :(

I've been running the 13 inch Baer upgrade on my 93 for many years. Unless they've changed something, their kit fits fine and works fine. I know of at least 3 other 93's running the same kit.

In real world aspects, how much hp did say the 93 "R" have over a regular Cobra.
From dyno experience.

I don't think it had any HP over the standard Cobra. It was lightened a significant amount. No A/C, power windows, door locks, front bumper, sound deadening material, radio, radio antenna, no back seat, very cheap (and light) seats. All that stuff together adds up. I would guess maybe 200 or so lbs lighter, so that would make a decent difference at the track.

Here are the specific differences between the Cobra R and a Cobra:

R had a curb weight of 3089 lbs. - Cobra curb weight was 3214 lbs.
R had a strut tower brace - Cobra did not
R had 17X8 wheels - Cobra had 17X7.5
R wheels were 1994 optional 17" GT 5 lug wheels painted gloss black with polished lip and chrome center caps - Cobra had unique 17" 4 lug turbine style wheels
R had 13" directionally vented Kelsey-Hayes front rotors with 10.5 radially vented rears rotors - Cobra had 10.84" vented front rotors with 10.07" vented rear rotors
R had a 1.30" front stabilizer bar - Cobra had a 1.125"
R had variable 240 - 260 lb/in. rear springs - Cobra had 160 lb/in. constant rate springs
R had a unique aluminum radiator with de-gas cannister and a recalibrated fan clutch drive - Cobra had standard GT set up
R had a unique air-to-oil oil cooler - Cobra had standard GT set up
R had power steering cooler - Cobra had none
R had the 1994 Mustang 15:1 steering gear - Cobra had standard GT set up
R had stiffened floorpan with unique sub-frame connectors - Cobra had standard GT set up
R had rear seat delete, radio delete, sound deadener delete, foglight delete with manual mirrors and windows - Cobra had all deletes with electric mirrors and windows
R had full size spare - Cobra had unique 15X4 aluminum wheel with P125/90R15 tire
R had no warranty - Cobra had standard Ford 3/36
Only drivers holding a license from a sanctioned racing body could purchase an R - Cobras were sold to any Tom, Dick or Harry
Due to the R's rear suspension, it came with a warning, "Due to the wider tires for use on smooth race tracks, you may experience some bottoming out of rear fenders on the tires. It is advisable to avoid bumps and to enter driveway ramps at an extreme angle to minimize tire-to-fender contact."
107 R's were built - 4,993 Cobras were built
R's sold for $25,692 - Cobras base price was $21,578

Yep this kit is specifically for the 93 cobra that I ordered. They make two different 4-lug kits. 1 for our cars and 1 for 4-lug GT/LX's

Don't know about everyone else, but my name isn't dick...  :rollseyes

Just kidding, great info BlueOvalBolt!

I couldn't figure out why I thought our 93 Cobra's had a faster rack and pinion than a GT, now I know it's the 93 Cobra R that had the faster rack. Another mystery of the universe solved.
