So I have a stock 98 cobra convertible (4.10 gears) and my intentions were to go the KB 2.1 route maybe later this year or next. However, my cousin has a procharger with intercooler and bought is brand new last year and is going to take it off for a different route and is offering it all to me for the same price as the new KB. I'm assuming I'd be stupid to consider the KB now? lol.

I've had a vortech on a 96 cobra and know how a centri feels, I just wanted to try a KB, but I feel like a deal like this would be too good to pass on. Probably has less than 1000 miles on it, if anywhere near that.

What say you all?

All depends on how you want power to be delivered, both are good choices and will triple the fun factor of the car

KB will hit down low, immediate tire shredder, more ‘violent’

This feeling is what makes the mustangs fun for me, I’d still go KB.

If you don’t like to run out of RPM’s in the gears then the Kenne Bell is the way. I recently removed the KB from my 93. It was an animal in the low and mids where I stayed. Never ran the rpms into yellow. But if you’re someone who like to wind the thing out then obviously a centri is your choice.

Centri. With a B head 4V, that's a no brainier when given the choice between centri or KB.
The KB is limited without an intercooler. Yes, there are ways around it, but the centri is the cheaper/safer/more powerful choice.

As I understand it, the Whipples are good down low and run out at the higher RPMs, while the Centris need a bit to build up, then pull and pull the remaining RPMs.

Unless you can piece together an intercooler kit for the KB I’d skip it.

How much discount are you getting on the procharger kit vs the new price?

Centri with 4.10s would still be fun.

PD blowers tend to make massive torque almost off idle and power tends to hold or climb slightly across the rpm range. On a 10-15# centri setup boost doesn’t really start coming on until 4K or so and starts climbing from there (my 4valve experience anyway)

An affordable and unused procharger is the obvious choice. It also has its own oiler, which is sweet.

The only thing I would hate is that sound, but I like strictly NA for myself...still I would take the procharger in a heartbeat.

I don’t think you can get a Whipple for that car, and I think winding it out with one may also be dependent on engine displacement.

When you can run the smaller bypass valve and recirculate it the air noise just cruising is pretty minimal. A vented bypass on a pullied down setup does get loud

I just seem to recall the screeching sound of the centri at idle...that is shit I don't like.

Yeah this is only a street car/ weekend cruiser, but the idea of an intercooled setup is what sets me on this. If I went KB, I'd likely want some type of methanol injection.

I have meth injection on my 93 and it did nothing but help prevent detonation. I don’t think it had any cooling effects at all, the KB runs too hot

I have a P1SC-1H with a 96-98 Cobra bracket for $2k. Just need intercooler, BOV, and piping.

And I am local. Lol
