complete and total :bs:

absolutely no way a 5.56 would do that. a 7.62 wouldn't even leave that kind of wound. it was either a 50cal or not a round at all. more likely a piece of shrapnel. i'm in iraq right now, on my 3rd tour, trust me, that's total crap right there!

3 tours to iraq? thank you brave sir, may god bless you throughout.

5-10 meters. 20"-barreled M16A1

That is the kind of damage it should do....

the 5.56 round is more devastating the closer to your target you get. Thus the reason we have moved to them more in CQB although the barrels have been shortened and the velocity has dropped.

Page 4 shows the cavity created.

This study was an extremely detailed, indepth analysis of a specific
engagement (5.56mm at CQB range); we must be careful not
to apply the lessons learned out of context. The study did not
look at the effectiveness of ammunition at longer ranges, where
differences in projectile mass, velocity, and composition may have
greater effect.

Damn...that's crazy.
I can see it doing that amount of damage, but not sure about breaking the bone without even touching it. Going in one side the leg and out the other...it had to be pretty close either way. I'm not even close to being an expert tho.

that much damage from a 5.56? Im skeptical, but I guess its possible.

+1....I've seen similiar to less damage from my 30-06 rifle on deer. The 30-06 is way more powerfull than a .223 but who knows. Maybe it hit the bone and tumbled on it's way out.

Yeah...that is the damage from a 5.56. seen it happen plenty of times....most doubters have never shot something with a smaller caliber per their own statements. the velosities on the higher caliber rounds allow for the bullet to run through flesh muscle or whatever like a hot knife through butter. where the smaller rounds don't have that ability so upon impact they shatter and tumble through flesh muscle and bone like a sledge hammer.

FWIW had a guy in SOI have a negligent discharge with a SAW it made a similar wound about 2"s above his knee. won't foget those screams anytime soon.
