Had 3.73's installed to replace the factory 2.73's in my vert and I'm impressed. I really DON"T like 2600rpms at 70 mph but around town it's perfect. Had to do some research about cruising rpms cause I coulda swore it was 4.10's or lower in there. Can't wait to do some track testing!!!!:burnout::burnout::burnout:

I think you might be way off, did you change the speedo gear in the trans? I had a 90 that I changed from 3.27's to 3.73's and what I can remeber, 70 was about 2000 rpms. 2600 rpm would put you around 90. You need to find a calculator on the net and check that out. Just and idea.

Speedo gear was changed. I researched rpms at 70 on a few websites and they all had 2600 rpms for 73's and 2800 for 4.10 gears. I do intend on checking my speedometer as it was off when I had the stock gears. Believe me I was PISSED when I picked up the car cause I swore it had 4.30's. My 86 had 73's and it was nothing like this car but back then I never drove 70mph anyway, speed limit was 55 or 60 then.

What size tires are you running? I'd keep checking, still doesn't sound right? Good Luck!

Corral RPM / SPEED / GEAR Calculator
Engine RPM: 2600
Vehicle Speed: 81.2102274245321
Read End Gear: 3.73
Stock tire size

I checked that calculator too and it shows the gear to be a 4:16 but others when I did a search show differing results:shrug:. Guess its gonna be off the ground to check the driveshaft rotations.:nonono:

Got under the car just now and the driveshaft turned 3 and 3/4 turns for one tire rotation. Guess its 3.73's...........maybe the t5 is not the original that came in the car originally.

Mine with 3.73s was definately not friendly on the interstate. I had to keep it down to around 60mph-65mph to keep it around 2,000-2,500rpms. Sounds right to me. When I installed them I thought to myself "There is no way you could do alot of interstate driving with 4.10s!"

x2 I don't think I would ever put 4.10's on a street car unless it was an AOD. I bought the Mustang as a runaround car, to drive to the track and what not, but with these gears its now a city car!

Just used my GPS and my speedo is way off. At 70 on the speedo I'm going 77mph, and at 70 mph I'm still turning 2400-2500. Now I get to try to find the correct gear for my speedo as I've heard there is no exact replacement for this gear.:??:

Hey Joker

Hey J it's Vince here. Remember the weekend of the Show at Banner? I put in my 3:73's and changed the speedo gear to the black 23 tooth. My speedo is still off by 7 to 8 mph. But with my wife next to me doing 70 I am at 2300 rpms. I am running 215/60/16 tires on the car. According to the speedo gear calculator I should be dead on with the speedo. I have actually gotten better gas mileage with the 3:73's. I drive from the Southshore to the Northshore every day. I am going to try and be out at the Lake tomorrow. Hope to see you there. If you have any questions PM me.:coolman::rockon::burnout:
