Do I already have the right TOB retainer?

My dealer has just fitted a CF DF and Fidanza wheel for me.

I asked them about the new retainer and cover TSB and the tech said I didn't need it because my sleeve was in good condition and already made of steel. He showed me a magnetic screwdriver being attracted to the steel tube coming out the end of the removed tranny and it all looked good to me.

I was a little surprised to see it appeared to be steel because my car is a very early run '03.

Does it sound like I have the right/good part(s) already on the tranny?

It's not an issue of it being steel. The issue is the guide tube breaks off the cover because of a poor design. Lucky yours wasn't broken. I just put a new clutch in too and mine was broke off and I didn't even know. I had already planned to replace it though and had the McLeod sleeve on hand.

Damn, should I have insisted on getting a new one then?

I never track the car and very seldom do clutch dumps at high rpms.

If it hasn't broken in 33K miles is it likely to later?
