i've searched and read all of the spring posts and am still looking for opinions...
i am looking for lowering springs for my '03 convertible and have discovered that some manufacturers make 'vert specific springs.

is it necessary to use these springs made specifically for 'verts? now that KB is out of production, what is the favorite spring for terminator 'verts with 18" wheels?

thanks in advance.

the rear of the convertable is heavier, so the springs are set a bit different to compenate for this difference, it may not be enough to be a problem, and it may. It depends on many factors. You could always try and see if you have a good deal on springs.

I went with the H & R-S/S springs for my coupe and really liked the drop. They make a S/S for the vert as well...part # 51659-2.

H&R Springs

just so i'm clear on the H&R Springs... there are really only 2 choices -- the "Sport Springs" or the "Race Springs", right? i've read some refer to a "Super Sport" spring (SS)... this is really just the "Sport Spring", right? There is really not a 3rd - "Super Sport" - option, correct?

buy some used coupe springs for $30-50 bucks on the sale board...and cut 1/2 coil off of them.. reinstall

not low enough?

cut 3/4 coil off...

still not low enough....

cut 1 full coil off them.

repeat for the front

That's too bad about KB. Their springs are great.
Here's my setup:
AFS 10.5 x 18 chromies in back, 18x9's front
BFG KDW 295/35/18 back, 275/35/18 front
KB Club Sport Springs P/N KBP-85245
Car sits about 27 in. front, 27-3/4 in. in the rear

Sorry if the pics. come out small. I can't seem to make them larger.

H&R part #

you're absolutely right. after much confusion with "Super Sport" and "Sport Spring" and just the SS name being used for a wide range of springs, i discovered that "Super Sport" springs are for non-cobra mustangs while "Sport Springs" are for our IRS Cobras. at least that's how i'm reading things...

from stangsuspension.com:

H&R Super Sport Springs - 94-04 Mustang Convertibles
Part #: 51658-77 (NOT FOR IRS COBRA)

H&R Race Springs - 99-04 Cobra with IRS
Part #: 51659-88 (Coupe application)

H&R Sport Springs - 99-04 Cobra Convertible with IRS
Part #: 51659-2

H&R Sport Springs - 99-04 Cobra with IRS
Part #: 51659

H&R offers coupes a "Race Spring" application as an option... i'm not sure if 'vert owner are stuck with the 51659-2 or if we can go with the "coupe 51659" or the "race 51659-88".

also, the text makes it sound like the "race" springs make the car sit lower than the "sport" springs - contrary to everything that's been posted -

H&R Race Springs - 99-04 Cobra with IRS
Part #: 51659-88

For the driver who wants the ultimate in handling - and an over-the-top, highly aggresive look - H&R Race Springs are the perfect solution. We recommend that you match these dynamic, race-spec springs (from 50 to 100% stiffer than stock) with high-quality, sport-tuned dampers for optimum handling. Also, going this low means you'll need special camber-adjusting components to keep your alignment in line. Just ask your H&R Specialist for advice.

Lowers 1.6 inches in front and 1.5 inches in the rear.

Fits 1999-2004 Cobra Mustangs with IRS
