Okay, I just purchased my cobra in the early fall. It is a black Cobra so it shows every flaw in the paint. I want to have the glossy finish that I see on all the black cars here. I can see fine scratches/lines over the car. What will take this out and restore the cars gloss? I am probably going to repaint the hood and bumper because of chips but I would like to avoid repainting the whole car.

I'd certainly clay the vehicle if you haven't already. I like Mothers, but most of the over-the-counter clays are good. Wal-Mart has the best price I've seen on Mothers clay, but it's also available at the major auto retailers. Detail the trim first to prevent any product staining later on.

If you have a Porter Cable 7224 or 7336 high-speed random-orbital and light cutting pads, try a polish. I like PowerPolish, but there are plenty of good polishes out there.

If you're going to be applying by hand or with a low-speed random-orbital, try a 3-step system that includes a Pre-Wax Cleaner, Sealer & Glaze, and a Pure Carnauba Wax -- or equivalent. Mothers is easy to use and the results are really nice.

Next you'll want to look at your washing and drying habits -- bad habits there are usually the cause of such spiderwebbing, but since you bought the vehicle used you can only guess what was going on before. A suds bucket along with a rinse bucket, a quality wash, a plush sheepskin mitt, a gentle rinse and waffle-weave microfibers can help a lot.

you do not want to start repainting things on the car. It will never match perfectly. Also repainting the whole car to look as nice as it did new would cost 6-7k for a good job and still never turn out like factory. The factory paint is baked on before anything was installed in the car. Im not sure that you nknew that so just be careful not to damage the paint when detailing it. Use micro fiber towels.

Voodoo-the good thing about the PC is that you don't need experience and you don't have to worry about burning up the paint. That is why it is so popular. You can be a beginner and get awesome results with one.

I know im not going to have a perfect match, im just hoping to improve on what I have to work with. The whole front bumper is riddled with chips. It actually looks speckled. Also I just found out today that they didnt clearcoat under my hood blanket. On my Gt I repainted the bumper, the side scoops and the cervinis hood and it was a close enough match to suit me. The guy that is doing it is the guy that restored my dads shelby so he knows what I expect. Im just hoping for better than I have now.
