I've had this planned for awhile now but just now got around to doing it. I love the Cobra emblem in the grill but IMO the ones that we have on our fenders look too small in that big opening. A Shelby Cobra emblem is bigger but won't fit. Unless you do surgery on it... So I bought this: 07-09 Ford Mustang Shelby Cobra Fender Emblem Right OEM - eBay (item 290531733893 end time Feb-13-11 19:54:23 PST) and then got to work.

I studied the piece over and decided where to make my cuts. Then I super glued the 2 pieces together. You can see how much I cut out.

Then I scored the backside.

Then I filled it with JB Weld

After it dried I drilled the holes in the existing bracket.

Then I cut out the bracket after tracing around the new emblem.

Then I repainted the exposed bare metal & roughed up the bracket and back side of the new emblem. Then I JB welded the new emblem to the bracket. I also put the old retainer clips on the 2 posts on the new emblem. They also got JB weld on top of them.

At a distance of 18" you really can't tell that I seamed it. I am very pleased with how it came out.

It looks okay. I would have angled the cut a little more so the head would be more centered over the coiled up tail. Maybe try to do another one? It looks good, but I think it could use a little improvement (constructive criticism, not slamming your work)

Never thought of that before, great idea! I like what you did but not sure if I would do it or not, I always thought of a little bigger emblems on the fenders just not sure on the front one or not, I kinda like how the one now fits in there good.

It looks good. I received a original Cobra emblem from the late 60's that I mounted the same way but also has the nitrous purge through the mouth. Don't have a great picture of the finished product for some reason, but the original is I think made of lead and more of a 3-d model. Here are a few pics of it. But again yours looks nice!!

I like the fender snakes but not too crazy about the grill one. Kudos to creativity

I think this is a very good idea. May not be easy to do...but I see how this might improve the look.

Looks good - those must be smaller than the 2011 emblems, right? I was browsing the dealership a couple weeks ago and saw a 2011... the Cobra's were HUGE. Almost too big.

I still like the smaller ones better.

Amazing work though, i love the attention to detail. Looks like an OEM part.

fender ones are pretty good, the front one is too big still.

That's pretty creative thinking right there.
Thanks!

None taken. Yeah my original plan was to scan it into Autocad and figure out the exact cut points and etc. Then I just decided to wing it. Came out great considering I cut it with an upsidedown zigsaw between my legs and freehanded it. If I had a bandsaw and a table sander I think I could make a perfect one. It came out good enough for now. I may decide to do it again later.

Thanks. WOW I love yours! I looked at the older cobra emblems too. I almost went that route too. Love the fogging snake!

Thanks! I am very pleased with the way it came out on the first try. I think it would really pop on a black car.

Thanks! Yeah those are the OEM fender snakes. I think the headlights are throwing people off too. Not everyone likes them.
