This is mostly directed to my fellow mystichrome owners.
There has been more debate over the availability, price, ease of application and so on about this paint, and along with my problems, i decided to make a few calls and converse a bit. Here is the final run down. There is not a "factory pack" because the factory bakes the paint at a much hotter temp than a custom paint shop can, do to the fact that the car has no components in it like seats or plastics, therefore the paint available to the consumer has a slightly altered chemical composition. Now, the paint its self is available through car quest via PPG and their Deltron brand of premium paint systems. This paint requires a ground/base coat of black epoxy sealer for maximum saturation of color. This undercoat code is G7. The color coat or mid-coat is where the shift takes place. This PPG paint code is 903070 or Ford code G6. This is the most expensive portion of the process. At around $500-$700 per quart there is not much room for mistakes. However, this is reduced at a 1:1 ratio, so purchasing 2 quarts and reducing properly will yield one gallon of paint. This is PLENTY of paint to completely repaint a cobra and some. The final layer is of course the clear or top coat. This is a urethane top coat. Now applying this is no more difficult than spraying anything with a can of walmart spray paint. You use the same steps and techniques anytime one paints anything. Proper preparation is required ie. taping and masking off. Then with a steady hand and proper spraying skills its as easy as 1) spray the G7 black epoxy sealer in 3-4 medium coats overlapping each pass by 75%, this will insure proper coverage for the mid coat. This first base coat will be 3mil thick, allow to dry to the touch and now. 2) spray the G6 color coat with the same application as the base G7 coat, 3-4 medium coats with a 75% overlap with each pass, allow to dry to touch and now. 3) spray the clear coat in the exact same process, 3-4 medium coats with a 75% overlap with each pass. These are the fundamentals to achieve proper thickness and coverage for most layers of paint. You can purchase everything you need to repaint a Mystichrome Cobra, with no body work needed, for around $1200-$1500. Here is a formula from PPG directly..
