I don't necessarily hate them for making money off youtube simply because I understand how ad revenue works.

Its more of the fact that most of them are absolute ****ing idiots and I don't understand how people cling to every video they make.

Ever watch vehiclevirgins? The kid had a e39 m5 through college and is now on his second lamborghini as well as daily driving a brand new S550. He's put out videos before saying he made all his money in investments when in reality he has a cushy job at his dads company.

The video that made me have less than zero respect for him was the video where he took his recently supercharged M5 to get retuned. After it was reflashed he said "I think I can see the supercharger spinning faster." This is not the kind of person anyone should be listening to for car advice!

Don't believe me? See for yourself

Or another great one, subaruwrxfan, who I've seen over on Mustang6G. He begged his subscribers for some money on gofundme which he used as a down payment on an ecoboost mustang. A year later he felt like he deserved a GT so he traded it in on a 16 Guard GT Premium. 2 weeks later a motorcyclist ran into it and destroyed the entire drivers side of the car.

This is a trend I've seen with a lot of these "self made" youtube people. They put out these videos about following your dreams and you can achieve wealth just like they did when most of them came from high income families already. Its shit, pure shit.

And don't get me started on all these buzzfeed style "10 things I hate about my six figure exotic car, you won't believe # 7!" Videos I see all of them do. Or when video thumbnails have emoji's slapped in there, talk about condescending to appeal to millennials.

So yes, I might be 25 but I'll agree with the angry old men that a majority of young car "enthusiasts" these days are ****ing retarded. Probably because they're learning it from these idiots on youtube who vlog about cars all day long and 60% of the screen is a close up of their face. As far as the young generation in general, social experiences I've had have led me to stay away from them for the most part. Maybe that is why I've grown up to be such an introvert, simply because I just hate almost everyone I have to be around in public. /endrambling

PS: Since I saw someone mention superspeedersrob, he has an account here on SVTP. I know his 00R he had for a short while came from a member on here as well from CA. Kyle from 1320 video was on here as well as the recently trending yolodouchebag. Why does it seem like SVTP has, for a long time, has been a central hub for some of the great automotive content that has blown up today? Sid, find a way to capitalize on that!

Neither of those guys have anything in common with Thatdudeinblue, I see them more as 'entertainers' vs the gearheads that are thatdudeinblue, bigkleib, etc etc. Tj Hunt is in the middle, imo. Yeah he knows how cars work but he does some WEIRD mods....haha

Same can be said with moto vlogging. 6foot and suburban delinquent dont have the same style that say, baronvongrumble does.

First one is funny when the truth comes out.

Haha. I saw the video of wrxfan where he told people he had misfiring and engine codes pop up from going into heavy boost in 6th gear on that eco and apparently asked the forum why.....then he explained in the video what low speed pre ignition is. I also heard he drove it only on weekends because he said the eco is unreliable and could blow up. My god.

I'm waiting for the day I get in a quarrel with him on M6G and bring up his "fundraising", I don't know how many people on M6G know about that since I see some people over there actually respect him.

I don't really have an opinion on TDIB other than I know he exists. Although I know he's guilty of doing those buzzfeed style click bait videos as well.

Bigkleib seems like a nice person, I saw him at a semi local cars and coffee and realized who he was as he was holding the door open for me leaving the bathroom.

Let's be honest here. Most people in entertainment are absolute idiots. Have you not seen some of the stupid shit Jeremy Clarkson and the guys on Top Gear have spewed? Remember when Hammond wrote "almost" on the side of the GT500 because the RWHP didn't match the advertised crankshaft horsepower? How about the time they ripped the Vette because it used "leaf springs". Even Jenson Button came out this week and lambasted Top Gear for their programming.

Tom Cruise, Gweneth Paltrow, Will Smith, Kim Kardashian, Shia Labeouf....all absolute morons.

Nobody likes clickbait titling, but you have to look at how social media actually works. You may not like it, but we currently live in a tl;dr society. That mentality permeates society, but is especially present online.

Knowing that, titles matter. The title for this very thread is clickbaity, but I don't see anybody calling the OP out on that. It garnered attention and look where the thread is now. There's been some decent debate here.

The same thing happens on YouTube and other social media sites. In a competition for viewership that pays your bills, your title and the thumbnail is the first thing you see. So you end up with some of that. I find it hard to fault the practice when it works. How many of us would be in this thread if it was titled "A discussion on the state of car culture influenced by young people's lack of mechanical skill."

When your livelihood is tied to viewership numbers and the trend is to do these "10 things I hate" videos, you go with the flow. Because the "10 Things I Hate" deal has been brought up, those videos from youtubers were actually that. Just like the ice-bucket challenge, it got started and each vlogger completed it and volunteered other vloggers. That's not really clickbait, especially when the videos were exactly that, the vloggers talking about the aspect of their car/s that they didn't care for.

Yes I remember Hammond not knowing how a dyno worked or the time Jeremy put a "mustang GT" against a real horse and it was actually a 4.0 V6 rental car. At the same time, Clarkson also resoldered the main body wiring harness on his 928 in the middle of Argentina, I'd like to see half of these youtube celebs pull that one off.

Hollywood is another story, I wish most of them would leave the country like they claimed they were going to.

You can discuss an aspect of likes and dislikes without filling a video with emoji's and making it a buzzfeed style list. But no, I get it, it has to be trendy to appeal to the lowest common denominator otherwise they won't get the ad revenue that funds this stuff.

I see your points. BUT there are plenty of people your age that suck as well.

I'm so confident about it that I can guarantee it without even knowing your age.

I don't believe in excuses, however a lot of the entitlement issues are centered around their parents saying one sentence; "I want my kids to have a better life than me". At that point the parents assist and help the kids to a point where they no longer know how to do things for themselves.

Much like a wild animal. If you take a wild animal at birth and raise it in your house and take care of it day in and day out....10 years later when you decide to release it into the wild, it will not make it.

Fwiw, most of my friends are car guys and can wrench on their own shit. We are all 27 and younger.

I will occasionally pay to have things done, for a while my local dealer had coupons for oil changes for $19.99 with semi synthetic. That's about what it costs for the oil and filter, so I let them do it.

Also, it's just now I realize that I'm not on the last page, I hope we are still on topic lol.

We need a giant EMP to destroy all the electrical devices on the planet and watch most of the population die off in a year, leaving all the intelligent people who know how to take care of themselves left to breed and repopulate earth.

Uhm, seeing as you're my financial advisor, we may have to discuss this.

We haven't been "on topic" for 6.5 pages.

You're Welcome, America!

Not bad, svtp. I think its because the typical trolls arent in here, as race isnt an issue

I'd be cool with that. Only thing I use my phone for is work, and this website. hahaha

If we detonated an emp we wouldn't have any mustangs to drive cause it would fry the electronics too

I'd just bring over some poor Somalian to push my car around and make a "WEEEEEEEEE WEEEEEEEEE" noise while doing it.

Easy fix.

To get this back on topic, you'd have to say "and millenials couldn't install a carb"

to get this straight - you'd think the person was 'less of a man' if he paid someone to install said part because he didnt have the tools / time / what have you?
