sorry for asking about under drive pulleys . i just got my 99 cobra back and i am thinking of getting some pulleys for it. i have read a few posts from doing searches but i'm still confused on if i should get a full pulley kit or just a crank pulley and not sure what company to go with. also i haven't found any posts on any side affects from running pulleys but i may have just over looked it.

I'm in the same boat. From what I've read it seems like the concensus is just going with the crank pulley. March seems to be a favorite.

I bought the full March kit and have an issue with the Alt pulley not fitting on the aftermarket Alt. Just something to think about.

I don't think these cars suffer the same charging problems the fox bodies had. Probably because our alternators are rated at 130amps where the foxbodies were like 60 (I think).

No they suffer from broken oil pump problems.
It is not worth the risk.
A modular is not a pushrod motor, so stop treating it like one.
Boss330 and MP John both think UD's are a bad idea on mod motors,
so I will go with THEIR advice on it.

I have read probably everything he has written about pullies. I wish I could find the biggest write up he had but I haven't been able to for about 2 years now.

The consensus is that a SMALL dampner on a high reving motor (Over 7K) is bad.

99 percent of the oil pump failures was race motors turning over 7K running a small balancer.

This is why Piggybacks unlike most think are not bad because it keeps the big ass stock balancer even though it moves it a little futher out.
There are some (March for example) that make balancers that are not "technically" small.

People have been running pullies on street cars for years and years without many issues at all.

Out of all pulley makers out there, the least I would trust would be BBK, and would never put some of their crap on my car.

Someone makes an aftermarket damper that is an underdrive but not as much as some of the other underdrives but does a better job than the stock one. Is it ATI?

THANK YOU Barry! First post with truth. I even spoke to Al when he was pitted next to me at a TnT. We started discussing the stock oil pump standing infront of my car with the hood open. He KNEW I had piggy-back pullies on my car and said as long as I stay under 7k I'll be fine. Well that was over 30k HARD miles ago and the car is STILL running strong. And it takes me 4 passes to get a mile too.

Once above 7k the gears in the pump start to vibrate so bad that it starts to cavitate and that is where they start to fail.

But I will say that when I first put on my pullies, if I powershifted the car (I do everytime I race) I'd always bent the alt shaft and it'd start to squeek. So after the 3rd one, I put the stock alt pulley back on but kept the water and crank. All is good since then.
