Alrighty, I'm looking into getting this Contour that's for sale at a dealership near me. It's a silver 2000 with 25,000 miles. I don't know anything else about it yet but from pictures, it appears to be in great shape. Not tinted windows which leaves me to believe an older folk drove it :p

The bluebook on this car is 18,000.

Does $15,000 sound reasonable for the car given this information?

2000 SVT
25,000 miles
$15k

What do you guys think?

I would drive the crap out of it first. Give the salesman the ride of his life. Do some hard turns and just get on it, red line shifts and all that. Look up the recall and common problems for your year, find out if it's been done then make your decision. I don't think it's a bad price personally, but someone else may. They are rare, I've only seen 4 since I've owned mine and that's been nearly 3 years.

that's about right. I paid 13k for mine when it was 2 years old w/36.5k on the clock. about 2k under blue book at the time. I believe the reason is, because very few people know about these cars, thus it is hard to move them, unless they sell them cheap. You might also try the classifieds at www.contour.org

Grrrr

I saw this car in the paper on saturday. I went up there today and poof, that damn car is GONE! :cuss: :cuss:

I got myself all fired up and damnit :gt:

Not another car like it in my area either. Except for some guy selling a black one with almost 50k miles for $15k.

:cryying: :cryying: :cryying:

Like i said, try the classifieds at www.contour.org alot of people are getting rid of theirs as they are 'upgrading' to WRXs and such....You should be able to find a nice one at a decent price.

UP Grading to WRX's!!!!!!!!
come on...don't diss the Tour SVT like that man...i mean i like the WRX's, They;re cool and all.... but i wouldn't call it an UPGRADE by any means! TOUR SVT's are "driving excitement" at it's best! :-D

I like the WRX but I agree it's hardly an 'upgrade'. I actually had a guy ask me last night about my car. Said he was looking for one to buy.

Buying a used car is a mileage game. If you want a 2000 SVT with 25K on the odo than go for it. There are other things out there for 18K but they aren't nearly as exclusive as an SVT Contour. Buddy of mine bought an 85 'bird with 30K on it. I gave him the same advice: "If you like how an 85 car drives and rides than it's your baby." He bought it and still (after 5 years) still drives it. Has about 60K now. Personally I think the car is awful (the 70's and 80's were the dark years) but he likes it and that's what counts. Before I bought my SVT Contour I was looking at SAAB turbos (205 hp jobs) but getting one of those with a manual trans was near impossible. My SVT came along and I did it. Good, fun car.

Wow I just realized that this was a 5 year old post. I was about to offer the guy a trade for his turbo'd Escort for my CSVT. Does anyone know if he's still around or even still has the Escort?

haha....I think I test drove that car before I bought an '01 Cobra. The mileage, location, price all sound familiar from spring of '02.
