Autometer Gauges Gone Dark; Can't Read Them

I installed 3 Autometer gauges on a 2004 Cobra on a pod in October 2004, and they worked fine until about 6 months ago. All three gauges are visible during the daylight, but at night the gauges are completely dark, and cannot be read. The lights are working in the gauges, but the gauge cannot be read; has anyone experienced this problem, or have any idea what is going on? It almost appears as if the cardboard part of the gauge is wet and darkened.

Also any opinions on the best gauges out there, because I will probably have to replace all three gauges unless I get some sort of credit from Autometer.
