Another satisfied Porter Cable 7424 user here... Though I bought it from CMA.

Porter Cable 7424 + Klasse All-In-One + Klasse High Gloss Sealant Glaze + Pinnacle Souveran = STUNNNING

If you're looking for an awesome forum for anything detailing, check out Autopia.org. Anything you want to know, you can ask to the detailing enthusiasts and professionals there. They know their stuff....

Also, there's an awesome free e-book that has pretty much anything you would ever need to know about detailing in it... Check it out here:

Autopia Guide to Detailing

P.S. If swirls are your enemy, the PC and Meguiars #83 or 3M Swirl Mark Remover for Dark/Light Colored Cars are your best (and most safe) bets.

I prefer the Lake Country Curved Edge Variable Contact pads with my PC. It really is a great machine. The Coastal Tool special is very nice. For pads, you can find them from various manufacturers such as Lake Country, Edge, Meguiar's (Soft Buff) and Sonus. All of those will work well. It will come down to personal preference.

Porter Cable 7336 is the same thing, and you can get it at Lowes for $109. You still need the 6" velco backing plate. But at least with the 7336 you get the 6" counter weight which is the first thing you change on the 7424.

Here is a link to the differences between the two.

click

It comes down the counter weight and the 6" cuts down on the vibration as opossed to the 5".
