Extreme-duty IRS Cover Brace.... Hey Folks, Since no one seemed to be taking on the challenge of designing a diff. cover girdle for our Terminators (the 99 and 01 Cobras also), we have decided to do so. In fact, we've been working on it for a while and should have a couple of prototypes for testing within a few short days. The brace is made from 1/4" 1018 Carbon Steel bar stock and is fully fillet-welded using MIG process. The crosshatched part is an 1/8" spacer that will most likely be yellow-chromate coated. The brace will be powder coated (color TBD but probably red) and will come with Grade 8 hardware. It will be a simple bolt-on installation and can be done with the diff on the car. The girdle will effectively transfer the bulk of the torque load from the mounting flange directly to the differential housing rather than through the weak cover. It is envisioned that this girdle along with a beefed up diff., bushings, and a set of DSS level 5 halfshafts will finally yield a relatively bulletproof street/strip rear-end setup for the Terminators without having to go to a live-axle setup. Stay tuned! More details, pics, etc. to follow..... MJ
