I was rear ended two years ago in my 98 GT by a woman (on her cell phone of course) going 50 MPH, and I was at a dead stop. It caused extremely severe damage to the car. The back seat was pressed up against the two front seats. Not much of the back of the car was left. Was there any fire? No. In fact, the car totally saved my ass. I basically walked away from the accident with whiplash and a bloody nose (because I hit the car in front of me and it caused the airbags to deploy). Overall, I think the Mustang is a pretty safe car.
