I'm not a police officer, but I can surely appreciate what this message is saying. And it gives all of us non-LE people a little bit of perspective.

"A COP ON THE TAKE"

First he takes ... the oath.

Now look at what else he takes:

He takes... it in stride when people call him pig.
He takes... his lousy pay check realizing he'll never be rich.
He takes... a second job sometimes to make ends meet and support his family.
He takes... time to stop and talk to children.
He takes... your verbal abuse while giving you a ticket you really deserved.
He takes... on creeps you would be afraid to even look at.
He takes... time away from his family to keep you safe.
He takes... your injured child to the hospital.
He takes... the graveyard shift without complaint because it's his turn.
He takes... his life into his hands daily.
He takes... you home when your car breaks down.
He takes... time to explain why both your headlights have to work.
He takes... the job no one else wants - telling you a loved one has died.
He takes... criminals to jail.
He takes... in sights that would make you cry. Sometimes he cries too, but he takes it anyway because someone has to.
He takes... memories to bed each night that you couldn't bear for even one day.
He takes... time to explain to his family why he can't make the ball game his child is in and why he has to work on the holiday when other parents are off.
He takes... a day or more off for an invalid complaint filed against
him by a liar and thief, made just to get even with the cop that did a good job.

And sometimes,

He takes a bullet.

And yes, occasionally he may take a free cup of coffee.

If he is lucky, he takes retirement.

Then one day he pays for all he has taken, and God takes him...

"Enuff said..."

Thought that you all might enjoy this.

BLOOD UPON THE SHIELD

Confrontation in an alley. The Centurion does not yield.
But this time the good guy loses; there is blood upon the shield.
And the mournful sounds of bagpipes play out across the land,
drowned out by the sobs of a lonely young wife and a child too young to understand.
While the killer pleads his case in court,
the thin blue line is one man short.
And we're one step closer to society's fall;
another cops's name is engraved on the wall.
Another state funeral, with an army in blue,
and we know it could've been me and it could've been you.

We all look ahead to what the future has in store,
front line troopers in a country that's at war.
At war with itself and at war with its cops and we're out
there every day 'cause the battle never stops.
It's not the way it is on TV shows or like we learned in school;
no cool music in the background,
no playing by the "rules".

We're disillusioned warriors,
but for right we'll always strive.
We just pray that at the end of our stress-filled day
we'll get back home alive.
You stand out on the corner
ignoring the insults and the stares,
close to the point of believing that no one really cares,
when a six year-old boy walks over after watching
you for awhile, reaching out to shake your hand,
on his face a friendly smile. To him you are a hero,
a protector of our land,
and he wants
to learn about you,
as a cop and a man.
And when he asks you why your badge is covered
by a black elastic band,
tell him about our Brother--
A cop who made a stand.

now that one gave ME chills hillie.

Everytime I get mad at a cop for driving the speed limit so i can't speed, I now start thinking back to "a cop on the take" and suddenly my progress doesn't seem so urgent. Of all the people who bad-mouth LE personell, I wonder how many of them would shed a tear after reading one of these.

Pretty cool posts in here guys....I'm not LE but I do have a great respect for those who are (even though I do bend a few traffic laws!) Its nice to see a place where you guys get a little respect in a society that makes you the under paid over worked bad guys always under a microscope by some criminal that thinks they can find a loop hole in a law or your procedures (like breaking someones ribs during an arrest even though they tried to bash you with a pipe). Rock on, just keep that radar gun pointed the other way please!
