just don't let cobraracer tell you that a T-56 is the ideal tranny. Keep your T-45 till it breaks, then have Promotion rebuild it for you. The gear ratio for the T-56 is not ideal for na 4.6's. They just don't make enough torque. You need those steep gears in the T-45 to get you out of the hole. Clutch will depend on how much power you actually end up making.

I went with through 2 spec stage 3's and now a 3+. If you don't want to buy another spec just make sure the next clutch has a disk made of atleast kevlar or something more agressive like semi-metallic or carbon. -Mark

T56+4.30s= Happiness

Please explain when most here run T45/Tr3650 + 4.30s/4.56s and your T56 has a taller first gear than those 2... What you really should have said was: T56 + 4.88's = Happiness. Like previously stated, T56 is NOT a good option unless you're making good power. OP, listen to greydog

get a Mach 1 TR3650 which has the same 5th gear as the Terminator 6th gear, so you get the big first gear and a good Overdrive while keeping weight down from the additional weight of the T56. Then send that 3650 to Promotion and call it a day

Why do you need that particular 3650? Why not just have promotion build you one to Mach 1 spec?

not trying to hijack this thread but...

i have a T45 in the Cobra and a T3650 in the 35th should i swap them before i sell the 35th? i really really like how the T3650 shifts, its soft like butter is just that due to powershifting i had some damage and couldn't get parts for it, so it works alright it just doesn't power shift anymore, lesson learned no more powershift,

my point is if getting the T3650 for the Cobra until it goes down then send it to promotion or keep the T45 and do the same when it gives up
which performes better?

I have a 3650....03/04 cobra clutch, flywheel, and pressure plate.

+1 just had mine installed,,,wow I love the new pedal feel. I also put in a Steeda clutch quadrant, cable, and adjuster.......the pedal effort is about the same as my old Dodge Neon. Kingcobra FTW+ fidanza alum flywheel+steeda Quad/cable kit=:dancenana:

meh, you could do either/or. Might be a tad cheaper to get the Mach 1 and not have to worry about the gears being changed out but which ever seems easier

I understand that the T56 eats up more power than a T45, but aren't the gear ratios a null point? Shouldn't proper selection of ring and pinion make the tall first gear of a T56 moot?

To an extent. But it also depends on the other gear ratios.

Example:

T45 w/ 4.56's
1st- 3.37* 4.56= 15.3672
2nd- 1.99* 4.56= 9.0744
3rd- 1.33* 4.56= 6.0648
4th- 1.00* 4.56= 4.56

T56 w/ 4.56's
1st- 2.66*4.56 = 12.1296
2nd- 1.78*4.56 = 8.1168
3rd- 1.30*4.56 = 5.928
4th- 1.00*4.56 = 4.56

T56 w/ 4.88's
1st- 2.66* 4.88= 12.9808
2nd- 1.78*4.88= 8.6864
3rd- 1.30*4.88= 6.344
4th- 1.00* 4.88= 4.88

So looking at the torque multiplication a 4.56 geared t56 will loose to a 4.56 geared T45. And even a T56 with 4.88's wont start to pull on a T45 until into 3rd gear. So for drag racing a T45 is better than a T56. Even though a T56 is beefier it also takes more power to turn it.

The ratios you listed for a T56 are for the viper spec box. Doesn't the cobra box look like

1st- 2.97
2nd- 2.07
3rd- 1.43
4th- 1.00

Seems to me this would split the different between the two AND the rpms wouldn't fall off as far going into second. The Cobra T56 could still be modified to accept the .75 and .50 OD gears allowing you to run 4.88 rear gears and still drive it on the freeway at a reasonable rpm.

Explanation is simple.... I DONT DRAG RACE! 60ft times dont mean shit to me. Useable power on corner exit is what I care about. Plus the 4.30s with a T56 is a good combo, 4.88s in a street car? **** that! I can run 75 mph down the interstate at 2700rpm on a 275/40r17 and still get over 20mpg 4.88s give me a BREAK!!! :nonono:

Alright, but correct me if I'm wrong here, but the OP seemed like he was looking for a good clutch/tranny to run fast at the track. On top of that, I'm turning 2800-3000 on the highway with 4.10's on 315/35's and knock down 24/25 mpg still... 4.88's in a street car mean absolutely nothing.. Look above at the final drive ratios with the T56 transmission... Still lower than 4.56's with the T45.
