Just wondering if anyone on here has done this conversion and has any input. The bumper cover seems pretty straight forward to swap out and I already have 13-14 tail lights but I need some advice on how to make a quad tip axle-back connect to my 2010 over axle pipes. Would I be able to use a 2014 exhaust setup from the manifolds back? Longtubes are in my future but not quite yet.

Thanks in advance!

Yes, the conversion can be done and is pretty straightforward. You do not need to replace the mid pipe or over-axle pipes as they are the same from 11-14, only the mufflers get replaced.

You will need new bumper cover, valence and a number of misc parts. My local parts department had me buy a few pieces that they thought were different but turned out to be the same (support brackets, etc).

Below is the full parts list except for the foam for the bumper impact absorber. You can probably pull this off any 13-14 Junkyard mustang. I paid $100 for a new one.

Shown but not needed is part 17D942/17D943. These are a different part number from 2011 but are exactly the same part. Some of the misc clips can be reused from your 2011 bumper cover but hardly seem worth the effort. I did end up returning 16K262HC and 16K262A that I reused from my stock bumper.

You will also need to get two reflectors for the 13-14 Bezel. PNs Dr3z-15A448-A, Dr3z-15A449-A, DR3Z-17788-A, I think they are like $5 each or something. You will reuse the side markers off of your existing bumper cover, and the existing wire harness for the side markers and license plate light. You will need to route the harness a little creatively as the mounting points don't match up to the 2011.

Optional is the black piece between the tail lights. This is stupid expensive. Part DR3Z-63423A42-GA. You will need to remove the mounting tabs on the back and use some 3M double sided foam trim tape instead. Getting off the stock faux gas cap is the hardest part of the entire swap, and if I had to do it again I would have left the 2011 trim piece on and had a piece of gloss black vinyl put on instead. It is held on with a huge amount of trim adhesive that is impossible to get a behind - so it's mostly a brute force effort to remove.

**Also remember that these cars were built between 5/2010 and 7/2011, so the PVC and nylon plastic pieces have had up to 7 years now to outgas. The electrical connectors are starting to get brittle so take care in removing them. I broke one with rather little force in the trunk area removing the bumper harness, and I recently broke a tab off of the two pin TB connector while swapping out the throttle body. It doesn't take a lot to break the connectors.

Here is the only how-to that I found, has a parts list that is somewhat complete.

I missed that you had a 2010. Cheapest route would be to have the ball connector welded onto your stock over-axle pipes by a muffler shop. More expensive option would be to get a set of 11-14 over axle pipes.

Thats what I figured. I may just get the 11-14 over axle pipes. That way when I do decide to go longtubes I can get the 11-14 midpipe instead of the 07-10.

The 2010 exhaust is unique to the 2010 only. You'll be better off either having a good exhaust shop fab'ing up a set of over axle pipes for you to mate to 11+ axle backs or buying take off parts from an 11+ owner that upgraded the whole set up.
Once I started messing with mid-pipes, my exhaust was always such a PIA to deal with, because of the 2010 only hangers and axle backs I ended up just getting a full 3" Super Snake set up right from Shelby when they put them on clearance. That's what I have now and even if I wanted to change the axle backs, I'd have to get something custom made because of it.

I'm wondering if I can get away with using 2011+ over-axle pipes and modify them at the front to fit my midpipe. Or just modify my current o/a and add a ball connector like Sonic suggested. I'm also playing around with the idea of getting a Boss rear valence and just leave my exhaust alone for the time being. It looks to me like the hangars on 11-14 axle backs are different to the 2010s. fml.

They are definitely different, I can attest to that. I believe though, with just a little tweaking, you can use the newer hangers on the 10'. You also need the larger clamps since the 11+ exhaust is 1/4" larger than the 10.

A good exhaust shop should have no problem cutting off the hangers and rewelding them or replacing them with ones that allow you to fit what you need. It's just not an easy thing to do on your back in your driveway.
I fought with the exhaust on my car for a couple years before I finally caved and did the complete 3" system.

Thanks for the input PistolWhip, looks like I'm going to have to do some more research. The 10-14 body's are identical so I'm hoping you are right and the 11-14 axleback hangers can be used on the '10. It looks like the hangers bolt right to the frame in strategic places so it may just be a matter of picking up some 11-14 hangers. That would be one of my problems solved at least lol

Yep, I'm pretty sure you can just get those new hangers. The real pain in the butt is going to be finding the over axle pipes and then mating them to the mid pipe (unless you can find a complete take off exhaust system). Once you have it all though, it'll much easier to get axle backs to work. There are way more options in muffler systems for the 11+ too.

2010 model.you have to replaced a lot of rear end parts for conversion. Lot of $ involve.im planning to install quad tips instead of buying quad axle back exhaust.

Heres cheaper one

2010 GT500 stock exhaust is 2.5 inch so the magnaflow quads will fit... they didn't change to 2.75 until 2011. I'm more curious how they sound then anything else but I'm willing to give them a try anyway. Your idea to swap the tips on the stock mufflers will work too, but I would personally rather not cut up my stock stuff up at this point.

Ryan, you can take a look-see underneath mine to see what's different and what's the same if you wish. Might save you some headaches!
