Hard shifting

I went and looked at an 03 with 25000 miles this last weekend. During the test drive I noticed at higher rpms it was hard to shift into the next gear. What could possibly be the cause of this? I don't want to buy it if the trans could need a rebuild.

Sounds like the cable is too loose.

That's what I've read is most common. I just want to make sure that there's nothing wrong with the trans internally, that would require a rebuild.

cable adjustment, typically related to a worn or wearing clutch disk in my experience. corrected with aftermarket adjustor which every mustang should have from factory IMO
