Hey everyone!

I have a 2008 GT500 convertible that has been challenged by a friend of mine with a C6 corvette. Not a zo6 , just a standard vette with a manual trans. He is very confident in the fact that from a dig he will take me. I was wondering if anyone here has ever raced a stock c6 in a shelby from a dig.

My 08 gt500 is modded. I have an steeda power pack with a 2.6 pulley, steeda intake, sct tune and brand new 295's out back

Should I be worried or will the ol' Shelby do just fine?

What year vette? in 08 the LS2 and T56 got swapped to an LS3 with a T6060 and yes, those cars ran markedly different.

I honestly know nothing about S197 Shelby's, I can just tell you how the vette will run (variable based on how the driver rows).

Another factor to add in is the TYPE of tire you are running in the rear. Stock radial tire....you'll get mopped bc of no grip. Drag radial....you stand a good chance as long as you don't launch too hard and spin.

You would probably be better off doing a 2nd gear roll, or at least get him to agree to both. If you do go from a dig, don't blow off the tires and just hope he does. Also try to get him to agree to going to 130 from the dig, give you time to possibly reel him in, although at some point aero will start being an advantage back to him.

I believe the car is the LS2

I'll be on a radial but I've had some good launches in the past. I've raced some high HP GM stuff from digs with radials and have done well. He will be on a radial too

Seems like this is race is on his terms. Not that I care....(I'll launch the car how I want to)....he said he wants to race me from a dig only. No rolling race so that should tell me something right there. I have to say, once the shelby gets going she pulls hard. I have 3.31 gears. Top of second can push your eyes into your asshole

You should have no problem IMO as long as you can launch your car. When my 08 GT500 had a 2.59 upper, JLT intake and a VMP tune and DR I ran 12.1 @120mph so you should be close to that with your mods.

Actually, since I'm not 100% sure on what the year is let's say it the LS3

You say radial, drag radial? LS3 will probably take you if you're both on regular radial tires. Easier to hook a vette than a high TQ GT500 on a regular tire.

Yes both on street tires

Here is what a stock LS3 C6's can do in the 1/4 (lots of room for driver error and the low end of the scale are going to be running on sticky tires):

13.42 @ 109.32 - Dan Wendling - 09 A6 NPP - (4036)

Where do you fit in in that list? Check and see if he is still on the run flats. My run flats sucked for traction.

BTW, line em up and race, if you lose, does it really matter.

I owned a '06 C6 with the LS2 and the Z51 package. Here is dyno sheet from when it was bone stock.

Like mentioned before, the LS3 is a whole different animal.

My car now, as it sits left a GT500 at an intersection spinning his tires and I put about two bus lengths on him by the time I hit 80 miles an hour and backed out of it, since we were on the streets and I didn't have my radar detector. He got all butt hurt and did a ricer flyby at about 100 and kept on going then turned off the road.
So yes, get some tires under that bad boy.

Thanks everyone for all of the feedback so far! I really appreciate it.

In the grand scheme of things, no it doesn't matter at all haha but isn't it a good feeling when you see those chevy boys falling further and further away? Especially when they instigate the race. Would love to get a win in that scenario lol

ALSO. This just in...His cousin wants to race me in his 07 SRT8 jeep. These guys just want to put a hurtin' on me! Details on the jeep: headers, tune and an intake. Out of the hole he's got me but come on....I have to be able to reel him in, right!?

Also I forgot to mention that I have 3.31 gears. Helps out with the wheel spin a bit compared to shelby guys that have the 3.55 or 3.73 gears. Those 3.31 make it a highway monster too. Hope that will help me out a bit

Agreed the 3.31's will help somewhat, but realize you're making over 500 tq and a very low RPM's. The jeep is probably mid 12's in almost any weather.

My brother Jeep with same mods put down 390 on dyno and ran 12.3-12.4s. Both races should be close if you can launch it. The jeep is brutal off the line, many a car has lost to that cheap because they didn't expect it to be that fast.
