Sorry to hear all of that.....but do insurance companies usually cover vehicles that are left with the keys inside them?

I'm hoping it doesn't turn out that way....but I've heard of situations where people weren't covered because they did something like that.

Please read before opening up your mouth.

Well, I for one read every post in the 5 pages of this thread.

Jason, so sorry to hear of your loss. Don't beat yourself up any more than you have. You made an admitted mistake and life goes on. Not a one of us has never done something we wish we hadn't. Thankfully you are covered for the loss of the truck, trailer and car. You're actually taking this all quite well, considering your loss and all. I do hope the thug who stole your truck gets nailed for his crime and spends considerable (deserved) time in jail.

+1 couldnt have said it better myself

As everyone else said...sux big time.

Good to hear that things are working out.

Do you know the story on the P.O.S who took your truck?

Glad everything is going to somewhat work out OP. That is a crazy story for sure. While leaving a vehicle running as you did is maybe not the smartest thing, it could have happened to anyone. I have left my vehicle unattended before.

All the internet commando's on here have never done anything wrong.:rollseyes

Good luck to ya.

Yeah I posted before I read the whole thread because this shocked me...I read everything, I'm glad its working out for him....but there are many situations where that wouldn't be happening. This seems to be a pretty grey area for most of the major insurance providers.

Not with the keys in the ignition and the car still running! I just called my insurance agent because I'm that bored and she laughed. Said no way would that be covered. I have nationwide. I'm going to call geico, progressive, and allstate and see what they say.

Your agent is an idiot. The only way it wouldn't be covered is if the OP committed fraud (ex. hiring someone to steal his vehicle).

OP, sorry about your loss, shoulda had a remote start if you were going to leave it on but still IMO not your fault. If thieves were dealt with properly things like this wouldn't happen.

We should get Lindsay (lokslikasolstice) in here and see what she says about the applicable laws, but I think Rob (203cree) is getting deployed today so it might not happen.

Texas is horrible when it comes to Auto Theft! Especially Ford PSD...as mine has been jacked in houston before....and that's why I now have something that will take care of any bastard that tries to steal another one of my vehicles. Sorry to hear it man, but now days if your from out of town you can't leave your ride for a second to eat, sleep, or even shit without some loser trying to do something like this.

Good luck in the future and invest in as much anti-theft equipment possible!

He and everyone else has already been over this question as well as it being asked a ton of times in this thread already. :read:

A mistake was made....and the horse was beaten to death about 2 pages ago.
Thanks Brandon, I hope that we can get our deal worked out......now, lol!

Glad everything is working out for you. You planning on buying cobramacs twinturbojetplane lmao? YOu should take that out to tx2012 and really ruffle some feathers on bigboost and race gas.

That would be the plan. I was actually hoping that I could be driving a vert this weekend, we shall see!
As far as everyone else goes, thanks for you condolences, I am a lot upset that I made decisions that caused me to loose my car, truck and trailer. I do not however have a time machine that would allow me to go back and change things.

I leave my car on all the time while going to get food in a gas station and what not.. Everybody here acts like they haven't done it..

I never leave my car running with the keys in it, much less the windows down. i don't even park my stuff anyhwere and leave the windows down with the ignition off and go into a store. but i guess i actually value my stuff....

now I do have a remote start, and when i get out of the car I will lock it, and then re-start it, but if some clown bashed out the window and tried to leave, the car would just die and then he'd look really stupid.

this isn't the Army...i just asked an adjustor friend of mine, said it should be covered no matter what, a theft is a theft. you could leave your car on with your windwos rolled down and it would still be covered.....don't quote me, its what he said, but all insurances are different as well as rules pre state. :burnout:
'

the context of what I said was lost due to the fact that the moderator removed my comments.

I know he's covered, but what i'm saying is if the insurance company wanted to be dicks, they could opt to NOT cover it based on the fact that he didn't do his duty as a policy holder to protect his property in a reasonable fashion per the policy guidelines.

i know that on a homeowners or renters policy, if you get a hole in your roof, and you fail to put a tarp over the hole, and your house floods because you didn't put the tarp up, the insurance company won't honor the entire claim, they'll only pay for the hole in the roof, rest of the damage is on you. i know that's seems like it's apples to oranges , but you still have a duty to protect your property at all costs and that's what the insurance COULD argue if they wanted to be douches about it.

for his sake, im glad it's covered, and im sure he's glad it is too.

I just can't believe your insuranced covered it. I wouldn't have. I coulda swore there is a clause in there somewhere about them not being responsible for obvious negligence and this surely qualifies.

usually that's on homeowners and renters policies, that you have a duty to protect and secure your belongings/possesions, and mitigate any further damage from occuring in the event of a hole in the roof, or wall, etc).

Your agent is an idiot. The only way it wouldn't be covered is if the OP committed fraud (ex. hiring someone to steal his vehicle).

no actually he's not an idiot, every insurance company is different, and there are some out there that would not cover this based on his negligence.

Glad to see that you are covered!!! It sucks that you can't take your eyes off your shit for 5 minutes without something happening to it. I always keep my windows up, doors locked, anything of value out of sight. One time my Gf drove my car and didn't take the radar detector off the windshield like I told her to do. Sure enough that night a giant rock goes thru the drivers side window and it was taken. It landed on my center console and cracked the shit out of it. The stupid bastard was in such a rush that I guess he cut the shit out of himself. There was blood all in the seat, splattered on the dash, instrument cluster and outside of the door. There was also blood all over the ground outside the car. I know enough blood to where a band aid damn sure wouldn't help. I just hope those gashes in his arms turned to scars to remind him what a dumb **** he is. I guess the cuts made him gtfo in a hurry because she also left my iPod in plain sight and a little bit of cash, neither were taken.

Sucks you had to go through that, especially in a different state...I had my saleen s351 stolen from in front of my driveway. I was getting ready to leave for work and forgot my work cell inside. Went in to get it and when I got out I saw my car being driven away. I called cops and they never showed up until 5 hours later asking for the description of the car. California cops suck...the car was never found...

Buddy, we all make mistakes. Its just important we learn from them, and I am sure you have.

I am sorry for your loss, but I am glad your insurance is covering you.

Any pics? I want to tear up a little.
