So this is kinda of a dumb question, because I'm one that changes oil often. But heres the deal.

I have roughly 700-800 miles on amsoil ss 10w30 running e85 fuel. The car will be coming out of storage soon. I gave it some thought if it would be bad to leave that oil in and not changing it until this fall (October-November) before i put it away for the winter.

Basically, if i change it now, I'll likely change it this fall anyways before putting it away. I didn't do that this past fall.

You will get 50 different answers most of which are simply opinion.

Mine is that I change before and after winter storage. Some will argue but it's cheap insurance and I enjoy doing it

Oil does not break down until it reaches temperatures of 200 degrees for a certain amount of time. If you are changing oil that has not even reached 200 degrees for less than 24 hours you are wasting your money, time and resources provided by the earth. Research it Amsoil should not even be close to breaking down until 8000 miles.

Yeah, I agree with cmac. Based on the limited miles you have on your oil I do not think it needs to be changed yet. Leaving it in now and then changing it before you put away I think is fine.

Whether the oil is sitting in your oil pan or on the shelf at the store does not matter. It's not being utilized or broken down. So, it is still good in my opinion.

Use it in the Cobra or if you decide to take it out, put it in your daily driver and use it that way. Brad mentioned that and I think it is a great idea.

I'm sure you've seen my posts on this. My oil is somewhere around 2 years old and Doesn't even have 1K on it. Looks great on the dip stick and it will go in the mower and such when I do dump it. RP 5-30.

If you're going to change oil that often its time to change to a cheaper oil. I always run synthetic but im not afraid of running AutoZone or any other house brand. Its probably the same oil made on the same line as other higher priced brands.

Research Walmart synthetic sometime Mike. I have no issues with it all in my daily drivers, but I shop around for deals when it's time. My 150 has 130, and the wives escape has 97k on it.

My amsoil 10w30 had sheared down to a 20 weight after about 1000 miles and a full year of fairly hard driving with the ported eaton. I imagine it will only be worse with the whipple. I'm thinking about switching to cheaper oil and just changing it more often.

I'm not going to switch back to a less quality oil just to change it more often. I want the best added protection I can get and I think Amsoil is right there.

I don't run E85. I also am still on the eaton. I change mine once it's put up for the winter. Basically when I know I'm not starting it anymore. In the spring I hold the pedal to the floor to prime the engine. Then start it the oil gets 1k miles on it a year. Amsoil S.S. 5W-30. Honestly I think next fall I'm gonna save some of it the old oil and use it in my lawnmower and snowblower.

My two pennies on this, In my toy cars, I change it once a year always in the Spring. I dont usually put anymore than 1000 miles a year per each of my cars. Ill change the oil in my 2013 Cobra that I just picked up when the weather gets a little nicer. Theres 2100 miles on the car and the dealer claims they changed it. The oil looks good on the stick but only shows 18 % oil life left. The dealer claims they just forgot to re set it. I just have a bad feeling that its the original oil in it still. Ill put new Motorcraft 5/50 in it for arguements sake , run it through the Summer and Fall and change it next Spring. I think changing it twice a year for a toy car that doesnt see any miles is wasting your money.

By cheaper I mean something like M1 EP or the European 0w40 and a motorcraft filter. Still not very cheap but not amsoil expensive.

That's how I start mine up in the spring too. I normally change mine in the fall as well, but didn't this time.

I use to change oil in the spring and then in the fall for storage. Last couple years I've been only changing the oil every spring as I only put about 1k miles or so a year. But I'm on 93, doesn't e85 contaminate the oil much faster?

it is amsoil, basically the best shit you can have. If it was 2-3 years old, I would say change it. You are perfectly fine keeping it in there for another year. If you don't believe me, send it in to labs for testing.

I did testing with royal purple hps 5w30. I'm actually curious on the difference between the two.
