The 2.7 just feels fast because of the down low torque but runs out of steam up top. You can tell by their trap speeds. Although the rcsb 2.7 are also hitting super low 14s and perhaps some have ran 13s stock (not sure). But the trap speed is a bit less.

The rcbs around here are running 13s@100+ with the 5.oh and the 3.31 gears. One ran 13.78@102 stock. With a tune they are in the 13.2-3x.

We plan to get newish f150 for the wife. It will be a 5.0 engine. We will use it to tow very seldom. Mileage is nearly the same from what i've seen. And after the warranty runs out, i feel it will be easier/cheaper to fix a n/a engine. We both currently daily a 4 cylinder vehicle, so either would have enough power. We both dont care how much "low end" it has. It will be driven normal, not raced.

That is correct. I ran 13.55 bone stock in the middle of summer with mine.

to put things in perspective even the 2017 raptor with 510lb-ft, 4.10 gears and 10spd auto will not hold off a stock lightning. Gen 2 lightnings hurt alot of feelings when they came out. In my opinion thats the vehicle that put SVT on the map, 4yrs before the terminator, but thats a discussion for another time. ; )

exaggerate much?

stock lightning will literally put a bus length on a 2.7l truck from any speed. You are comparing a 13 sec vehicle to a high 14 sec one. Lets be realistic here.

your butt dyno needs to be recalibrated
however, stock 3.5 eb vs stock L would be a pretty close race

What's the relevance of how quick another vehicle is when choosing between a ecoboost or 5.0L engine in an f150?

well ecoboost sucks down fuel like a big block and its a price premium so the go to argument for fan boys is "its fast."

no, your still talking 5mph difference in trap speed and over a .4sec in the quarter. At 102mph, .4sec is a gap of 60 feet.

60ft = bus length

now if 3.5 is tuned then you have an argument

Depends on how you drive it.

I hand calculated multiple 19, 20, and 21 mpg tanks in my unloaded 2011 FX4 Super Crew.

No v8 at the time (6-7 years ago) was even close to matching that efficiency.

And it tows more.

they have the same class IV hitch which is limited to 500lbs on the tongue (per ford towing guidelines), same suspension, same gearing, same brakes and same load rating on the tires. Any difference in tow capability is a mere illusion with the purpose of relieving you of your $$$.

I'm not disagreeing, i'm just saying thats the other argument. Which is technically true because Ford rated it that way, whether it has any merit to it or not.

im averaging 19.4mpg all time over 131k miles in my 2012 and that includes towing and frequent speeding over 80mph.

also i had a hemi ram with 8spd for 2 months. It averaged just over 20mpg on the exact same commute.

$1,500 up charge on ecoboost and a 1.5mpg advantage it will only take you 13yrs to get your $$$ back. But hey, every cent counts.

depends on driver, .4sec could be based on driver launch/hook

8 speed rams are bad ass but were not available until 2014? i think. 19.4 lifetime is great.

My best tank ever was just over 22 but i was never able to duplicate that before i got rid of it.

I really don't give a shit what you spend your money on, won't be my bill when it breaks, so I don't know why I'm posting, but I couldn't pass up putting this on here.
