I don’t care for it. I would like to see the $ this would cost go to wounded warriors

This. Our government is quick to say "thank you for your service" or "support your country" then leaves vets out to dry when they get back. If your going to send them over some b.s. war at least take care of them when they get back.....

This will just cause a bigger divide between those of us that have and still serve and those that have a negative feeling about the military. This will not sway opinions, this will not boost support, this will not boost morale.

Want support to rise? Want opinions to change? It will take a foreign invasion and millions of Americans to be slaughtered before that will happen.

These are photos none of you have seen. While we were deployed over in Europe, I accepted to send 20 of my Soldiers to participate in this event. They were able to meet the POTUS and other distinguished VIP personnel.
Either way, I’m pretty sure this is what sparked the POTUS on this and what he envisions with a military parade.

Seeing in person the Arc de Triomphe alone is a lasting memory.

The city of Philadelphia and the state of PA are paying for a parade focused on a team of a meaningless sport but something of importance (maybe vanity too) crosses the line?

I don't even think that would sway those with negative feelings about the armed forces. You have to be a special kind of stupid to not appreciate those that serve.

Waste of money, should go towards veterans, specially therapy for Veteran suicide, wounded warriors, families of those KIA.

If you are so inclined to watch military parades, why not go to Parris Island/San Diego and watch Marines practicing drill. Oh thats right, you didnt watch it before, why will you watch it now? Because trump wants it? LOL

Thanksgiving day, christmas day, new years day, rosebowl parade, all have military service men/women marching. Can also attend fleet week! Go attend/watch those and show your support. I like all these moto posts from people that have never served a day in their life. :)

Who did you vote for in the last presidential election?

I’m not trying to start with you.

I have the same feeling that it is a waste of money, but with family in the recruitment side of the armed forces it makes sense. If it instills a pride in the military and pushes more people to want to be part of that, then it could be a good reason to spend the funds.

Currently they are having trouble finding qualified people to join; the military isn't as highly regarded as it was in the past. Plus, with the economy doing so well it is going to be even harder. About the only reason to join the military is for the betterment of the United States and pride in your country.

Millennials do not want to turn wrenches or do physical jobs and that is what people assume the military is and they sure as the hell do not take pride in the country lol, can this parade change that? What benefit will it truly have?

As you can tell I am split...

Believe me, a serving active duty or reserve personnel and being ordered to attend a parade isn’t going to go over very well. Especially Navy and air force they don’t march After boot camp and will be a major embarrassment, it will have to be recruits only.

This is the reason why i posted, marching sucks. It's really for moto guys that love this shit and end up staying 20+ years in service. If you search in google, the reenlistment percentage is small, meaning people will only do 4 years and GTFO.
I've been contemplating reenlisting into reserves, but after seeing Terminal Lance's IG posts. I'm reminded it sucks, so I will stay civ. Can only reenlist up to a certain age.
What you think @svtfocus2cobra, ever think of re-upping?

I have been back and forth on it. I started looking into getting back in to go out for sof, but I hit road blocks and realized I enjoy my civ life and job too much. I quenched the urge by getting into private contracting and mostly instructing on the side which I do now.

... Give the men and women a chance to show the public what they do, what skills they offer to defend our country and our allies. Personally, I would make a special trip to see our military and interact with our fighting men and women. Give the American people a chance to interact and converse with our men and women. I would love the chance to pay my respects. It would bring pride back to this country, to see our military up close and personal. It would give the soldiers a chance to educate people on the things they do, like a tank driver showing the public what he does. Where would the public ever get a chance to see that. Maybe there could be some demonstrations that could wow the public. Treat it like an air show, but include the entire military. We have car shows, boat shows, heavy equipment shows, SEMA and PRI, why not a military show. Wouldn't that get people fired up about our men and women? A bonus for the military, it could be a good recruitment tool. Let future soldiers see and talk to the men and women they would be serving with. They have ceremonies for Olympics, this could be the ultimate American ceremony. Bring back American Pride and let the military lead the way.

I would love to hear from active members and veterans. Am I off base for feeling this way?

Everything you're wanting from a national parade is already done EVERY YEAR on U.S. military bases all over the world. Yes, that includes right here in the good ol' U.S. of A. Every year, bases have a weekend or week when the base is open to the public, and the base puts on a display. Visitors get to visit certain areas of the base to see and partially experience military life, see and handle some equipment (tanks and aircraft are very popular attractions), talk to the servicemembers, etc. If anybody is truly interested in something like this, all they have to do is contact their nearest (or preferred) military base and ask when the next display is scheduled. I believe it was called Public Appreciation Day at Ft. Lewis. It's called something else at Bragg (All American Week (?)) and something else in S. Korea and Japan. Different names at different bases.

So yeah, this would be a big waste of money for something that people aren't truly interested in seeing. If it doesn't get televised, very few people will even see it because most folks aren't going to be willing to travel a far distance to see a parade.

May be good for the troop morale too, which would be the biggest value.

No it won't. I can tell you from firsthand experience that we can't stand having to do crap like this. It takes weeks of planning and rehearsals, extra equipment maintenance to get it looking "like new" for the people, etc. Oh, and those perfect uniforms? They don't just come out of the closet looking like that. Those awards, badges, ribbons, etc. don't attach or shine themselves. It can take HOURS to get a Class A uniform dressed to perfection. So no, this would be terrible for the morale of the troops who would have to participate in the parade. Not to mention, many troops would be forced to go either as spectators or as backup support. It's waste of time and money.

Vets need more benefits. Really? 15 yard penalty for too much BS. Here a list of over 50 fact sheets. Each of the 50 sheets have several programs available. Countless opportunities for every category of veteran out there. The simple truth is most Vets don't take the time/energy to find out what is available. It ain't going to show up in mailbox on its own...some action has to taken by said Vet.

https://benefits.va.gov/benefits/factsheets.asp

For those who would bitch and moan about supporting the POTUS to show the strength of the strongest military on the globe...I say it is time for you to get out and grab that WalMart job you've been dreaming about. I was invited to leave my Air Force after 30-years due to maxing out the time for us enlisted guys/gals. Would proudly strap on my Blues (yes it still fits) and march for the pride of our great nation. Let me know if you can't make the parade...I will do it for ya.

Got to go now and retrieve my US Flag...it's getting dark out.

You can go and retrieve your flag and everyone elses'; it will not make a bit of difference.

First off, the military does a piss poor job of helping ETSing soldiers in finding what there is to help them transition, to get help, and to move on. The military has also done a piss poor job at working with the civilian world in making certifications from the military translate to the real world.

Now, on to the grand parade. First off, leadership would make it un****ingbearable! It would be an utter shitshow for the enlisted soldiers below E7 or so. There are four parts of the population. The first is those who have and still served. The second is the parents, spouses, and children of those that serve. Third is those that never served but respect the military and those that serve. Last, the biggest section is those that could not care less. This section feels the military is expendable, is full of failures, they think the military is not useful, they think war is a product of the military, they would gladly serve up family to criminals and terrorists to prove how advanced they are.

So tell me, how is a parade going to change anything?

Like GT Premi said, if people want to see that stuff it is available every year on the nearest installation. The 101st has Week if the Eagles where it puts on all kinds of demonstrations.

A military parade would be a waste of money, resources, and time.

I would rather see the money go to better and more expanded care at the VA. Give all veterans a National Parks Card, give combat veterans a tax break, give current soldiers better equipment for deployments. That is money well spent. Not some stupid parade.

raustin0017, respect to you for your service. Your a lifer that’s your choice and there’s no problem with that. When was the last time you marched in those thirty years? Please don’t let us down and come up with some BS that you proudly did every day. If you were a marine I’d say yes even army once in awhile but the Air Force doesn’t and neither do the squids. Yes I respect my time served and the Navy paid for all my schooling. I lived in Sardinia at the age of 18 and had it made. I’m very respectful of the Military but having to do this isn’t going to be a moral boost unless there’s a ton of partying and time off on the schedule.
