Isn’t the Demon a factory modded Hellcat?

No, the Demon and the hellcat are 2 completely different cars that share a similar body.

That is like saying "isn't the Hellcat a factory modded Scat Pack"?

"The Demon engine has been modified with 97 new parts. The block is the same but is machined differently. The cylinder heads carry over, but almost everything else has changed. There is a new, larger 2.7-liter supercharger (up from 2.4 liters in lesser Hellcats), a new crankshaft, new connecting rods, new pistons, a new steel camshaft, and a new valvetrain. Boost pressure also increases to 14.5 psi from 11.6 psi. The software of the eight-speed automatic transmission was changed to provide a transbrake function to build and hold more power for launch in Drag mode. No manual transmission is available."

Per autoguide:
Sixty-two percent of the Demon’s engine is different than the Hellcat.
Demon’s internals, the block is deck plate honed to minimize bore distortion, while the cylinder heads are machined on dedicated Demon/Hellcat CNC machines. New parts compared to the Hellcat’s V8 include crankshaft, pistons, connecting rods, and supercharger. Dodge says there’s also a 33 percent increase in oiling for the valve springs and rocker tips, while single-groove collets on the valve stems improve stability. To handle the 840 horsepower, fuel injector pressure has been increased 27 percent and both the oil pan and windage tray have been optimized for high acceleration, with the company testing it up to 1.8 g.

What Justin said his done to his ZL1 is accurate. He’s not a grudge racer that needs to lie about his mods. He’s always been open and honest about his cars no matter what.

I like the Demon’s but they are just a little overhyped. No biggie Dodge has to do what they have to to sell cars.

Sure we’ll see plenty of videos like this. I think the demon is a neat concept, but I’d never go for it. Hellcats have been running similar or better times with @4k in mods if I remember correctly. @Zemedici

I agree with the run what ya brung theory. Demon is the top dog with tons of hype. Tough shit if a cheaper car with a few grand in mods waxes your ass.

I keep thinking about going to test drive a hellcat charger but I just love my cobra.

I agree with the, "run what you brung" statement but i don't think someone should get "bragging rights" over beating another car that is stock when their own is modded.

so lets race a stock terminator against a termi with pulley, headers, jlt, e85 and a tune, since clearly these are "basic/unimportant" mods.

But this isn’t a stock ZL1 vs a modded ZL1. The argument is that all things put aside, the demon has 840 crank hp vs the zl1’s 650.

The Demon is a modded HellCat in the same way a GT500 is a modded Mustang GT, or RT-SRT, or Z51-Z06 etc...

Didn’t we have another discussion like this a couple months back?

I’d never buy a Demon personally, but there are plenty of people with modded Camaros that would blow the door off my GT500, as well as the unreleased one.

Doesn’t mean something is a waste of money and a failure. It simply means cars are cheaper to make fast when bought used, or starting with a cheaper platform.
