There was one from Mexico several years ago, but it was more of a sustained series explosions.

In regards to the Chinese explosion I was asking about, there was a massive fire burning the whole time.

Glassrut just went from smoke and sparklers to Bang with a vengeance.

edit: Someone make #Lebabomb go viral

The China explosion was a giant flash. Think of a gigantic pile of match heads that all ignited at once. All of the shit in the port was instantly incinerated but there was no blast.

So a fireball/arcflash opposed to a boom

My next door neighbor is a Lebanese Christian. He was born there but became an American. Still has lots of family there... His sister was in the blast radius and the house in her words was "gone." They are heading to her inlaws village. A few other members of his extended family are unaccounted for.
The social media feed he showed me was incredibly sad, hundreds of posts of all the people looking for loved ones that were missing. It hit me in the gut, like the first time seeing the people putting up pictures of missing loved ones in New York immediately after 9-11, but there were more kids in this feed. (9-11 hit me harder, but on a human level suffering is suffering)
They believe it was an Israeli airstrike (some think drone others say aircraft), but all seem blame the local leaders for putting/ storing the chemicals that close to population.

I read the same thing. Something about terrorists holding ammo and bombs there to eventually use against Israel.
That was one HUGE blast! I read that windows were blown out 5 miles away!

This dude is no doubt dead if he didn't escape before the second blast.

I remember the gas explosion in Brenham TX back in 1992. It rattled our widows 80mi away in Houston.

I can’t imagine what that shockwave was like.

This was probably really close to what the Texas City Disaster was like in 1947, crazy stuff.

You'll have to Google how much power is given off by an ammonium nitrate explosion and then compare that force to an equal amount of TNT.

1kt = 1000 tons of tnt
Little boy was 15kt and detonated at 1968ft +/- 50ft above ground level.

Hopefully enough people are googing it now that the alphabet boys don't pay you a visit.

I still remember when the Debruce "Garvey" grain elevator exploded in '98.
Sepperate blasts for each bin as they cooked off, there are dozzens. It is the longest grain elevator in the world 2,657ft. (2nd longest is 50 miles away in Hutch 2,573ft) felt like a 4.5-5.0 earthquake and I was 6 miles away.

...in terms of mass to energy how much energy is given off from ammonium nitrate vs TNT?

Not doubting, but just making sure my math isn’t retarded..

LB was ~15000 tons of TNT
FM was ~21000 tons

Now we need a conversion.

I want to preface before I post, that I’m well aware the blasts from #Lebabomb won’t be anywhere near that, nor detonated at 2000 feet
