Mazda.

Bought our Cx9 new in 2007. Still have it today at 175,000 miles. All four of my kids grew up in it, learned to drive in it, and drove it as their primary vehicle for a while. It gets used by my youngest (19) near everyday today. Overall it's been a very reliable and robust vehicle. I don't hesitate to recommend Mazda.

The Mazda replaced a '99 Durango. It was OK (14mpgs maximum and great for off road Colorado adventures) until 90K miles and then it went to shit.
I second the Mazda. We went with an xc90 because the small availability of Mazdas but that was one damn nice car for the money.

Where's the fun in that! Ford Performance makes a weak-sauce "tune" for the ExST that maintains the factory warranty, but I haven't heard of any issues from the countless people running an actual tune.
Because I'm a big chicken. Waited for my warranty to go on my truck before tuning it too.

Bought our Cx9 new in 2007. Still have it today at 175,000 miles and 12 years in Wisconsin.

It was OK (5.7L, all options, 14mpgs maximum and great for off road Colorado adventures) until 90K miles and then it went to shit.

You must mean 5.2 or 5.9L Durango if a 99. That was pre-Hemi days. Not surprised it went to shit, Chrysler's 4 speed truck automatic transmissions were notoriously bad back then and overall the QC was terrible.

It's faster than both the Jeep and Bronco the OP listed.

Maybe faster than the base engine for both.

740ish miles one way. Will keep you in mind, but a bit further than I was hoping to go to get one. Of course, I've not really started truly shopping in my area and may find I have to go that route.
You don't have to drive to get it. I ordered an Edge through Nick for the wife. It'll get shipped whenever it shows up. We talked about making a road trip out of it, but she doesn't want to put that many miles on it at once.

It's faster than the Bronco he listed and you're pushing that 60k limit to get a new Jeep that's faster. Used is a different story but used Jeep reliability.....yikes.

Ford totally changed the design/drivetrain in the '20 Explorers going forward. I think mostly for the better.

Our '19 Explorer Sport w/3.5L EB has been great. Just rolled over 50k miles. It's my wife's daily and I feel pretty good about her getting the hp she needs, being safe, and the grandkids being safe with her when she's hauling them around.

On our most recent trip north, the onboard computer said we were averaging 19.5-20.5 mpg on the freeway @ 70-75 mph. On our summer trips we maybe got 1-2 mpg better.

I know it'll easily do a buck ten with the bike rack on - lol.

We also purchased an extended warranty, so be sure to ask @13COBRA (Nick) about that.

Good luck!

Right.. 5.9L (corrected my original post)

The transmission was ok. It was the electronics that flaked out and left us stranded several times and the transfer case was junk.

Hmm, the 2.7 Ecoboost bronco is a bit slower than expected and the Telluride a bit quicker. Seeing low 15s in the 1/4 for each.

Telluride would definitely be faster than the 2.3 Bronco.

1. Explorer
2. Grand Cherokee L (similar size to explorer)
3. Lexus GX460 with captains chairs

Explorer is the only one that is quick.

I am planning on getting a GX460
Next year though. The Explorer is slightly too wide to fit comfortably in the garage with the truck.

He may be able to have it drop shipped to your local dealer in which they usually charge a 500 fee for their services. Subject to change and may have, not sure. But if he saves you thousands, worth it.

Chevy Suburban - HANDS DOWN the ultimate "Mommy Assault Vehicle"

After I went to work at the local Chevrolet Dealership, they got in a used 2019 Suburban. right at 50K miles. We bought it for $45K. I put tires, front and rear brakes and filters in it. Otherwise it was clean, straight, and ran good. 5.3L with the 6 speed. Bought that device that goes into the DLC to shut of the DOD. Vehicle is so far trouble free. Average about 20-21 mpg.
We needed something that big because when the kids come out to visit in the summer we need something that can haul 8 people and luggage. I really wanted an Expedition Max but the prices on those were insane, if you could find one.
Since this is the wife's vehicle it pretty much just sits in the garage. She works from home so it is not driven daily. Bought it in May this year, have put 1,500 miles on it.

Family of four, two (barely) adult children. Would be wife's primary driver. Coming from a turbo Sonata, so something that's got a bit of zip to it. Would really like to stay under 60k, and even open to something used. Getting ready to build a house so trying to not go crazy on price but daughter's car is ready for a trade-in due to some reliability issues. Wife wants something sporty looking and wants it to have at least a bit of get up and go. She likes the look of all three of the below choices (so far).

Top choices in no particular order are:
Explorer ST
Bronco ecoboost (not raptor)
Jeep 4 door

Pros/cons for the above vehicles? Any personal experience with any of them?
Explorer ST. Can't go wrong with it.

As for personal experience, We've had it for a couple years. the only Con has been the back up camera which would blue out from a bad connection. Fixed under warranty by ford.

Pros:

The damn thing will go ANYWHERE. drove it deep into the mountains over some questionable terrain with no issues.
Drove it through the March 2021 Denver Blizzard to get to work. no issues.
Gets good mileage for being a TT V6.
Interior is excellent. plenty of room but its not a Giant Expedition sized behemoth.
peppy and fun to drive.
Massage and heated seats were a dream driving it from Virginia to Denver.
Comes with a Ford Racing school Driving course if that's somehting youd enjoy.
