99/01 cobra VS 2007 GT

About an hour... hour and a half.

I'm probably looking for a higher mileage Cobra selling in the low 20's. I'm getting married in Oct, so I SHOULDN'T spend too much... yet.

I found a Screamin' Yellow 03 in Michigan for $19.9k. I gotta get the Cobalt back together and then sold first though (My differential committed suicide while at the track).

Interesting... did not know. I guess I hang around with too many LS1 junkies. Haha. I know that they can be modified quite well. But I've honestly (at the track or on the street) never seen on be very fast. Out of the 4 that I've race (got vids :coolman, I've only had two sort of close races, and one was a C4 Vette. Good to know though.






Well, I probably can't get a vid with a New Edge... I've only ran into 2 of them... and it was all by chance. I don't think I've got a friend with a newer GT... but I'll try and hunt one down for you.

I'll get my friend with the 03 GT to run me for comparison... just for the hell of it.

And my car is not stock... haha. I don't know why you would assume that. If I was stock, then I would not be beating those cars. It barely barely barely beat 99-04 GT's when it was stock.

I put down 263whp/238wtq before I got off the GM tune (I can post the Dynosheet if needed). On the GM Tune, I lost to my friends modified SRT8 Jeep by 2. Now that I'm tuned, I'm beating him by 3 cars.

So lets just say 270whp/240wtq (it's probably a lot more than that). Given my Race weight of 3000lbs... don't you think that'd be enough to snuff out those cars? Honestly.

I raced an 01 cobra 2-3 weeks ago with a similar outcome so (40 punch and 20punch). All the haters can talk all they want...im 2-0 vs 1999-2001 cobras.

i drove both, and the mach would walk all over it. I wouldn't own a 99/01 cobra after test driving one, seemed like a slug after i hopped out of the mach. They have a different intake or something correct? I know it has IRS, and they are pretty damn heavy

my 01 Cobra and my buddy's 03 Mach 1 are neck and neck... im not going to get into detail but both cars are great cars so everyone stop arguing about it... and a 3V isn't better than a 4V... i smoke my brother's 08 GT (w/ mods) all the time...

i went 13.5s in my 01 Cobra bone stock and 13.30s with a catback and Tri-Ax

oh and the 99/01 Cobras actually weigh a "C" hair less than the machs 45-50 lbs lol

its more like 180-200lbs because of the solid axle in the mach ( weighs less.. and the 05+ weighs 200 lbs more that an 01 Cobra... Me, my bro and my bud all weighed them at a local track...

Stock Cobalts have gone 14.1 ~ 14.2 bone stock..I can think of several 99-04GTs that run 14.3 or slower... it can happen. A 99-04GT isn't the baddest car on the block in stock form... apparently you think it is..but it's not.

It's up to you. And stock Skittle's can run 13.8's @ 101+ w/ a competent driver. Quite a bit faster than most stock 99-04 GT's. If your friend is only beating stock GT's by half a car or so... then he sucks at driving. You can bring him to... we can all race.

Well, it's one of the slowest performance oriented cars that I've ever driven as well. I never said it was amazingly fast. It is what it is.

01 Cobra 3430 lb
2003 Mach 1 3465 lbs. (manual) 3475 lbs. (automatic)

The IRS is not as heavy as everyone thinks, i had to weigh my car in a bracket race once, fuel guage read below 1/4 tank, and my ass in the car (no reduction mods at all) it weighed 3620 and i weigh 170 lbs
so that means my car was a 3450 without me in it

To whom thinks the S197 is 200+ lbs. heavier then an 01 cobra. The base model weighs in at 3383 with cloth seats. So, the 01 Cobra's with the 4V in it, the fat a$$ 9 inch + tires in the back weight 3100 lbs? You have got to be shitting me. Sure, get one with options, then they get heavy. I have every single option, except Nav, and with me in my car, it weighs 3750. I'm about 205, you do the math. Mach's weigh about the same as the 01 cobra's as well. Remember, 4V is a tad wee bit bigger then our poor lil ole' 3V.

Yes, Cobalts are slow, unless you mod them. New Edge's have gone high 13's bone stock, with a great driver. Skittles have gone high 13's with a great driver. Hardly and Cobalts have gone high 13's bone stock. Hell, I'm not sure if I have ever seen one go that fast.

most of the time however i end up lined up with one at the track. I could care less whats next to me at BMP, i race because it's fun and thats it. win or lose i really don't care.

i am just there to improve my times and thats it

My (former) 05 made 27x hp and 30x tq on a Dynojet (stock).

Keep in mind the 4v's we are talking about come from the factory requiring 91 octane, whereas the 3v is set up for 87.

BONE STOCK - Mach > S197 > 99-01 Cobra

Any CAN BE a driver's race, as they are all close enough when factoring in some cars naturally make more power than others.

I have a buddy with a full bolt-on Mach (gears, lt's, tune, cai, etc, etc.) who runs ~12.5 on ET streets at the track. My (former) 05 with FR Drag Pak, Handling Pak, and axle back would pull ~ 1/2 - 1 car from a dig, and he would pull ~ 1 car from a 20 roll on the street.
